do i need to learn nl

Ok was not sure where to post this question. Ok i play strictly limit poker. I have notice that the game is drying up. I play on dv8/ub and am lucky if i can find 1 full or nearly full low stakes limit table going. On the other hand the low stakes nl tables are always runing full force. So is limit dying and do i need to learn nl?

whatevs, I converted to NL from limit. You'll find you like limit more but there are larger edges to push at NL

Spenda is speaking complete nonsense. You'll certainly find NL more stressful but NL vs limit really is international playboy vs trappist monk in terms of interest.

Limit has more variance and smaller edges
NL has less variance and greater edges

However, I like limit more but NL seems more profitable. If your roll is small the low-limit games should still be juicy and they are better for getting rb/bonus.

i feel you should be well-versed in both.

switch to stars if ub is losing traffic. i have never had a problem finding games at any level, limit or NL, at stars. now, i didnt say they were necessarily "juicy," but they are beatable at lower stakes for just about everyone who plays abc poker with sound pf strategy.

but, yes, the fad is NL right now. if limit starts to make a comeback, the casinos/pokerrooms will jump on it super fast...they are more profitable to the house by far.

if the fish ever get smart (oxymoron, i know), they will move back to limit because they wont lose their money as quickly...but its obviously more fun to take a guy's whole stack than sit and grind it out when the opponent has the "lucky seat" for the night...

I don't think NL is a fad...limit might be more fun to play, but honestly, you're never gonna see a 12m prize for a limit tourney are you? It's just not exciting enough for the TV.

i understand completely, but w/o the "hole cams," limit was the only game in town. and that was just 6-7 years ago.

apparently, NL came back from the dead. however, NL had a run back 50ish years ago, too. so, it seems things tend to swing back and forth as far as the "hot" game.

now, those "hole cams" may have changed everything, but its a bit too early to tell. i suspect they did, but if TV started pumping limit as the way to "make your money last longer (not that they will)," you'd see all the fish/lemmings follow to limit.

If your tilt factor is high, i wouldnt play NL un less you have 20+ buy ins. Also try to start on a fishy site. Dont get your feet wet at Nl500 on stars. star small and read as much as you can. Hand values are alot diffent and that seems to be the biggest difficulty for me. You cant just say oh well ill call him down and take a note. Might cost you your whole stack.

You have to read alot better to. Some people think tpnk is a strong hand and play it so. Knowing what your oppents consider a good or bad hand means more then what you do.

Limit wont die and neither will nl. However i think in the next few years we're goin to notice a decline in the oveall popularity of poker. It was a fad to 50% of the "new" field and it done now. We ganied some great players and a huge influction of fish. Unfortunatly many of the fish that became decent playes ruined it. I see so many wna be pro's that badger and belittle their weak oppents live and online. I really think this scares alot of them awa from poker, as it gives off a "secret socity" type of vibe, that most casulal player (our bread and butter) dont have the time or energy to join, so they just give up.

I bet the WSOP in 2008 is going to be drasticly smaller then the past3 years.

as far as poker diening though....fish are fish. They are gamblers who think poker is just a game of luck. they will always be around to make the games good. if anything i think online poker will die waaay before B&M poker does.

just play the game you like to play. Keep learing, as long as you dont stop learning, youll never be behind the curve.

WTF, poker is in a slight decline because of the neteller arrests. As soon as poker.Harrahs.com opens (with deposit via Visa/Mastercard) poker will become bigger than you could possibly imagine.

NL Holdem died because the edge between pros and fish is too big. It came back because of Television.

Limit will not become the dominant game because the edge for pros isn't big enough (relative to the other games).

i doubt it will become the "dominant" game, either. but, i do think it will gain popularity...if conditions allow.

the "edges" are for the pros. sure, the pros will stick to NL. hell, they like omaha even more...bigger edge since nobody has a friggin clue. but, if the fish ever want to aviod the "pros," they may make limit a more popular game again...and the casinos will support this big-time.

but thats like calling raise with your 53 and flopping the straight....very unlikely any time soon.

its all about TV. oh, i mean the money. well, they kind of go hand in hand.
