Comment on my play?

Hi, i am fairly new to poker(about 4 months) and i have been reading FTR for some times. This is the first time i decided to post an hand history of one of my tournaments because i think i did good on it.

Basicelly i used to use the style that is recommended on FTR which is tight agressive. Problem with that style is that while im sitting there at 1500 chips, sharks(loose agressive ones) are eating up fish and once fish are gones im stuck against sharks with 4500 chips with only 1500, and more often than not, once i end up getting a hand it will usually be beat or they will fold.

So this session i was very loose agressive, fairly good reads i believe.
I would like advices on how to improve some part of my game.

I would say my biggest leak is once the blinds are getting pretty worthy(200+) and my opponement or my own stack are not even 10x the BB. Then i cant get cute anymore with bluff or anything, i just wait for a hand and its pure luck.

Hi, newbie.

I just wanted to say that if you really want analysis on your hands, you're going to have to break them down. Either edit out all the hands where you just fold preflop. You could write something like Folded my first 15 hands then (post the HH) then folded my next 7 (post hand history) then folded my next 3.

We don't like to wade through entire hand histories.

Problem with that style is that while im sitting there at 1500 chips, with only 1500, and more often than not, once i end up getting a hand it will usually be beat or they will fold.

So this session i was very loose agressive, fairly good reads i believe.
I would like advices on how to improve some part of my game.

In fact, you only have to look as far as that Malou character in the history you’ve posted. Doubling or Tripling up is still no guarantee of winning, or even landing ITM. Poor players are poor players. More chips just means it takes a little longer to take it off them.

Also, you need to concentrate on what you can affect, rather than what you can’t. You can’t stop poor players sucking out or solid players making strong moves that takes each others chips. What you can do is make sure you do everything possible to minimise the chances of them taking yours and maximise the chances of you taking theirs.

Also, ‘rilla is right, wading thru a massive HH is quite time consuming (especially when there is lively debate about which film/movie you should purchase that begins with J). That is not to say that people won’t take the time to do it and help, it is just easier if you edit out the hands where it was an easy fold i.e.

4s2d UTG – fold
10c 6c UTG+1 fold

etc and then fill in where you played a hand or had a tough decision. Plus, it avoids the pain-in-the-arse situation where you have to post it across two posts.

Anyway, for what it’s worth, here is what I think of your SnG ……


Hand 4 – I don’t generally like playing ATo from that early, with blinds that low. You got away with it here and granted, this is through some aggression.
Hand 5 – If I’m not playing ATo, I am certainly not playing A9o from UTG
Hand 15 – Don’t check behind him here. If u have raised pre–flop, come out firing on the flop
Hand 29 – Raise that on the turn. You know you aren’t going to win that hand with T hi, so raise him up and make him think you’ve hit the 7 or at least got a pocket pair
Hand 43 – in that situation, with your stack the way it is and his the way his is and blinds at that level, I would just raise him AI with a big hand like AJs. Don’t give him a chance to hit a flop and then call. Make him make a decision for all his chips pre-flop.

Ok reason i played ATo and some craps is simple. I pretty much never had any good hand this SNG, that isn't rare(I think best hands i had was AJs and AKo once). And even thought theyre fishy, most of them notice ur not playing any hands and probably has something. If i only wait for the hands recommencded on ftr, sure it works wonders in cash games of 9 people. But in sng i have bad experience from it, for example waiting for a hand the whole game, then at the end with merely 1200 chips, i all in my JJ and run into AA. And if they had no AA, so what. They will just fold, theyre not that stupid.

If they get dealth an ace higher than 10, its rare that they wont reraise me. remember i am not playing 10/20 NL people, im playing mainly fishes.

I usually try to outplay them before the blinds becomes 20% of my stack, since then i cannot really outplay them anymore, it only comes to who gets dealth the right hand at the right time(so often i get dealth AK and run into AA or gets a coin flip vs a pocket pair, i dont believe coin flipping AKo is a good way to win sngs.

Sure maybe sometimes my opening bet(2.5BB) will get cracked by all in bet(i be forced to fold) but it will often get me money, if i hit a monster ill surely get lot of chips from them.

I would say it is something like 20% sharks(ok they're not hallingol but they're fine, aka gives me trouble if they're chip leader), 50% decent(may not be the best, but they won't give away their lead), 30% big fish.
A decent player at 4500 aint that easy to beat if hands don't come on my side.

What is the exact reason? i like to do that because instead of bluffing right away, i like to bluff the bluffer(and if hes got something, ill usually know). I rather win both his bluff and the pot than only the pot. I just mimic as if i was slow playing a monster, it work well against them.
I just check what they do to get information and then i usually guess what they have.

For example look at hand 20. An extra 150 seems good, and also i think safer.(of course im a newbie, feel free to explain why)

A few things I noticed skimming:

Don't raise A9o, don't play A6o (you're almost always going to be outkicked here). Don't raise K2s. Don't play unsuited connectors to a raise (or really from anywhere except SB) or even for a call unless its 2-3 handed or you want to vary your play

It seems your starting requirements are a little loose, now, later in the SNG or MTT these hands might be fine to steal the blinds, but early on you want to stay away

If you really want to improve your SNG/MTT play, you really need to pick up Harrington on Holdem, the information in there is priceless
