An MTT win is such a HUGE boost to the roll - but the long stretches of no wins can be a huge drain as well.

Yeah.. I didn't include MTT in my post because I don't have a big enough sample (or bankroll) to really get a clear picture. But I do have about the same large sample size of SnG and Ring and it is clear to me that Ring is soooo much more profitable for the time I spent doing both.

I had a few MTT FTs and a couple times it more than doubled my bankroll... so those can be pretty darn hefty and make you feel goooood.

Cash games > Sng. Skill edge exploited without bothersome blind escalation. Think about how you find yourself folding 22 late in a tourney because it becomes unprofitable.

I have a love affair with MTT however. Nothing beats the rush of a final table with a lot of $$ at stake.

Nothing beats getting down to the last few players in a tourney, with MTTs being even more of a rush, but cash is a more stable, more enjoyable way to play poker.

There's no sense of urgency, you can take your time, you can make the good hands count in a way that doesn't feel rushed, you can leave if you get bored or have a run of bad cards and go to another table.

I don't know. I have a special place for STTs in my mind, but I play mostly ring these days.

Cash games kills the fish in one shot.
Mtts provide a lot of dead money for decent players because of fish
SNG's provide the closest point at which fish= good players because of blind escalation etc.

Recently, I have only been playing SnG's because I think they're more skillful and I enjoy them so much more. Maybe, I'll carry on playing ring games now, though, since everyone seems to say that the ring is more profitable. I just don't like the possibility of loosing 25 dollars in one hand, whereas in SnG's I can only loose 10 and if I win I get 5 times more.

It's all relative. You can lose a stack at 25NL or buy into 3 $10 STT's and bubble them all. If you're bad you lose the money anyway.

I love the possibility of WINNING $25 in one hand. I've never lost $25 in one hand. I wouldn't bet $25 in one hand without he nuts but I suck.

I could care less which game is more skillful/profitable/enjoyable.

Other than free MTTs, I've only played full ring cash games and love it. I don't have the temperment for STT/MTT (having to take actions, focusing for 2+ hours, being wrecked by one poor play).

I have to imagine that the whole point of playing w/i one's bankroll is so "variance", regardless of format, becomes irrelevant.

i like all 3 -->ring, mtt's, and stt's.

i usually don't have 2-4 hours to play a mtt
ring is great for clearing bonuses
but my favorite is the single table sit and go tourneys

i love to kill stuff and stt's have the most killing per hour(according to poker office stats)

I think that you can play an automatic brain dead strategy at sngs where your tight early and play push/fold late and its profitable wich i think is great if your not in the mood to play ring

I'm a cash player myself, but I've just discovered how profitable MTTs can be. The variance is huge, of course, but if you're properly rolled then this shouldn't be a problem.

Tournaments require more luck imo; the bigger the tournament, the luckier you have to get. That's why I like cash games better now. I used to like tournaments better because I always got killed in cash games but I could still get lucky and do well in touraments.
