Calling bets with SCs?

I guess this has been addressed before but I'm feeling quite lazy so I just pop the question. Do you consider calling bets with suited connectors +EV? Let's assume the calling takes place from LP. How does reads of the raiser affect the desicion? I've been testing this out and have won a couple of big pots but I'm not sure if I'm losing more than gaining.

If they are tight post-flop and no one else has called it's not good. If the board hits you strong it's less likely to have hit them.

If they are tight pre-flop and you can put them on a high pocket pair it's +eV because your hand is very easy to play.

If they're short stacked it is more likely to be -eV.

If they won't lay down TPTK post-flop it's +++eV.

It also helps if you are able to win pots without hitting your hand (using your position).

If your read is good and you are both deep enough it's +EV. Whether they play too tight, or loose doesn't matter. If you know what they are likely to have, it should be easy to make money with these hands.

When you start calling without a good read, you are losing money.

I like seeing flops againts loose agressive players. Ill echo the fact that you both need to be deep in order for you to extract full value when you hit your hidden straights and such.

You either need to be against a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge fish or be prepared sometimes when you both miss. I call them sometimes. I also pretty much instacall if there is a raise and a couple of callers before me.

You need at least one of the following criteria:

1. Deep stacks (so when you hit big that one time, you get paid sufficiently)
2. Multipot (same reason as above, the one time you win you take down a sizeable pot)
3. A guy with "Aces" or other obvious big ones who raises big pre-flop (you will get paid big the one, rare time you hit, since overpairs are usually overplayed)

I guess the reasoning is the same behind all of the conditions. When you play crap, you're odds of winning at the showdown are low. However, the rare instances that your crap hits a winner, you will be paid big (in theory, due to multipot inflation or deception) Suited connectors are the best "crap" (unpaired baby cards) b/c they have much much higher odds of making straights and flushes by the river. (gappers and 2-gappers are significantly worse, so conditions must be that much more favorable)

It's a pretty subjective decision to start playing SCs. I guess you should use some software to see if you're profiting if you can't get a feel for it.

Generally, if you're in some MTT or SNG and the blinds are really big, everyone's tense, and hands never make it past the flop, you will not want to touch SC's and other such hands (22 for example, which works by the same principles)

When you're playing a deep cash game, it's much better. You can afford to screw around with drawing hands and other garbage, knowing that the payoffs can be that much larger.
