    Default building a bank roll

I have been playing poker, mostly for fun for about a year. After depositing some hundred dollars in the beginning (and loosing) I have now, built a marginal bankroll, maninly from cashing at freerolls at various sites.

I curently have about 50-80 dollars at Partypoker, Primapoker, Pokerhost, and stars. And plays sit & go's mostly, and a few low buy in tournaments.

My problem is, I don't manage to get my bankroll over 150. and keeps moving up and down, just around $100

So my question is, what does the experienced ones believe is the best way to build a bankroll ?

    tnx

Put it all on one site and start the grind!

Having low amounts of money scattered across sites isn't really going to get you far.

Up and down and up and down... welcome to pokah baby!

Read the bankroll management thread in the beginner digest. I'm willing to bet the with your limited $$ on that many sites your not practicing this very, VERY important advice.

Play $2NL on pokerstars or else the lowest SnGs there and just grind it up.

I was hovering around $200.00 +/- $50.00 for a very long time on PokerStar playing 5.50 SitnGos , .02/.05 NL and the odd $4.00 180 player SitnGoss, then all of a sudden, I placed 1st and 3rd in 2 $4.00 180 Player SitnGos and my bankroll jumped over $500.00 which enabled me to move up to $11.00 SitnGos and .05/.10 NL . Now I'm hovering in the 700.00 range but I've been doing well in my SitnGos and am beginning to slowly transition to the .22s.

    thanks for some great answers!!

I haven't have time to read the post about bankroll management, and will read it soon. I guess it's no problem moving it all, using neteller or something like that.

however, as I see, you think I should play sit n go's, which is where I believe my best game is.

What kind would you believe to be the best. 10 seats, 6 seats (2place payout) 6 seats (3place payout), or even H2h Sit n go's ??

there are also "mini" tournaments with 20-50 seats.

another question, for those who have done the grind, how often should i place ITM.. ?

    really appreciate your answers

the 5 dollar heads up games on stars are way easy i think im like 12-2, you should add those in your game since it seems what you are doing is just playing more for fun, but if you want to take your game really seriously i would reccomend starting to grind ring games

You can build a good bankroll by playing $5.50 SnGs. When I was building my roll, I took $100 and played $5.50s on stars until I had around $500, and then I went to PP and earned their bonuses playing cash games. I like the 18 man SnGs on Stars the most, that's where I made most of my money when I was playing the $5.50s.

easiest way to build any kind of bankroll: find a limit you can consistenly beat and do it, while taking a shot at the next bigger game and see what you need to do to beat that one..

    rinse repeat

If I were to do it all over again, I would just get a job and save up $500 or so and dump it into PP or something and start grinding 25nl and doing extensive bonus whoring. That would be the quickest way imo to get a sizable bankroll. It will take a while to go from 80 -> 500, and I feel like you will really not miss out on anything (in terms of learning) by starting off right at 25nl and skipping the penny tables. Good luck with whatever you do!

    once again, thanks.

I tell you this though, ring game is out of the question.. I really suck at it... but, in time I hope to get better at it, as, there seems to be more money made for those who manage it.

for me sitngo, and tourneys the deal.

    tnx again

Ignoreing rakeback, I dont think that this is true.

    SnG vs MTT vs Ring

Is like the old Limit vs NL debate.

One isnt simply "more profitable" in the way you mean...

They are all very profitable to people with the right skillsets...

You can make $50+ /hr in all of them (not that I do)

Find your best game and play it.

Keep records so you know what your best game really is.

    Q. Is poker Gambling?
    A. Do you use correct bankroll management?

Here's my take on this: I've been playing poker for just short of a year and have gone through the deposits and bustos and deposits. I agree with the idea if you could deposit $250-500 than do it. Now, if you have to do the true grind route, do as I have done. Go to a site which allows you to play $1 sng single table preferably. Fulltilt has a $1.25 turbo sng. If you have a decent understanding of Ms, Inflection Zones and fold equity than you should be alright. I have played roughly 50 of these in less than a week. My roll would flucuate up and down due to variance, but a few things will begin to occur. You'll gain greater skills through hand reading and aggression. Ultimately you get to a point where you are the King of that level and are ready to move up. When you are at 25-30 buyins head to the 5.50s or the 6 turbos on Fulltilt or Stars or Party.

I am mediocre in cash games. They can be rewarding, but I want to build my roll with out the thought of every hand I play is raising or lowering my bankroll.

I suggest that you read the guidelines on this forum and others for BANKROLL MANAGEMENT. Sit and Goes are great for building your roll. I don't believe that $50 is NOT enough to cover the event of variance at the $5.50s unless you are sure of you ability to score some initial victories. Which is bond to happen, and you want to minimize the downswings

Something that you might want to work on is summed up in the word PATIENCE. Looking back over the last year of my poker experience; my downfall has almost always been a result of lack of patience. I would come on ftr or other forums and read about individuals turning .85 into hundreds and thousands in days and weeks. Not knowing fully their story or credibility. Playing within you limit and skill level.

    QFT

I'd focus on one site, don't bother jumping around until you've got enough of a bank-roll to really take advantage of bonus.

    Get tracking software.

    Chose a game, limit, no-limit, sit-n-gos, MTT's, 1-on-1s, 7-card stud, anything.

Play that game at the lowest limit possible. If you can beat it consistently, move up. If you can't, try to figure out why.

m still on the br-building grind at EverestPoker.

The $2.50 and $5 SNG are pretty easy to beat when you play tight and disciplined against those french maniacs (if that´s too much, sng´s start at $0.04+0.01 buy in). Unfortunately is their Bonus hard to clear with sng´s and low stakes ring games cause horrible swings.

m right now at ~$150 and started at $20 6 weeks ago. sure there was some luck involved, but depositing $50 and playing at $2.50 sng´s should be enough there.
