    Default Brick and mortar Games

So i played online at a couple of sites for about 3 monthsand i lost like 250 dollars. I have played for about a 1yr before that at home games usually a break even player. After reading this site( this site is beyond wicked, i can't beleive how much info is on here.) I started playing at brick and mortar casinos and I m making money. See below. My questions are:

    1) I ve come to the conclusion that online casinos are rigged. Ive talked to few people about this and the opioion is split.

    2) When do you folks think i should move up to 2/4 3/6 NL?

    3) From my limited experience i think you should quit when you are up by triple or double your buy in. What do you folks think?

Goal: To have made $2000.00 By Sept 1st and have played 10 1/2 NL games
    Date Amount
    July 05
    Friday, July 01, 2005 $100.00
    Friday, July 01, 2005 $350.00
    Sunday, July 10, 2005 $243.00
    Friday July 15 2005 $(100.00)
    Friday July 29 2005 $52.00

    Total $645.00

    Per hr $36.86

    Welcome!

Read the sticky at the top on BR management. That’s all you need to know about BR.

Rigged? Hehe, do a search. The majority of people here play online poker. Would we if it were rigged?

    Default Buyins

So it looks like i need about 3k to move up to 2/4 and about 4500 for 3/6?

Why do you folks think im having such a bad time online?

Online opponents are generaly much better than the B&M variety. That is likely why.

Really???? If thats the case why don't you all play at a casino? Just asking?

It's probably not the same answer for everyone, but mine is simple.

I live in the UK. I am married, have a full time job, and have three young children. My nearest Casino is 30 miles away. I can play online and make £5 last a whole day/night and usually break even. If I went to a "real" casino I would feel obliged to stake a lot more than £5 (it would cost me that in fuel to get there and back), I would have to get a babysitter or leave my wife at home on her own with the kids, I would probably buy drinks/food whilst I was out etc. A casino would be a "big night out". With online poker, I can play a quick game when the kids are asleep, or whilst there is a boring TV program on that I don't want to watch. My PC and the internet are here all the time and Poker is one click away, with no effort. If I can't sleep at 2am, I can stick my dressing gown on and play for an hour.

So yes, I am sure that even at my "beginner" level i could make some money in the casino, but at present that isn't my primary goal for playing the game. I'm learning it and enjoying it. Like somebody on here says, it's a lot cheaper and easier than golf!

Even when/if I get very good, I doubt I will go to a real casino. I doubt I will even ever play a friendly or home game. I play online poker because I like to, it is fun, and my kids can sit on my knee and watch what I'm doing (my 8 year old reminded me to fold this morning because I was raised on the turn and only had bottom pair!).

I'm sure lots of people have lots of different reasons, above are just a small handful of mine.

I play at a casino when I can, but it's an hour drive away. Online is nice because it's in and out.

Online poker is not rigged. Your losses come from bad play/beats more than rigging of the cards. Think about it, what does the site gain from making a specific player lose?

I'm 19, and all the states around me require you to be 21 to enter a casino (Outphased has told me of a nice Indian B&M on the Texas/Oklahoma border that I can go to, its about 3 hours away though...maybe I can save up and go for spring break). I don't have the amount of money it would take to go to a B&M (2-3 buyins, food, hotel, etc) and really don't have the time either being a college student (the casino is 6 hours away from my college, 3 away from home)

Why would online poker be rigged? They make their money whether you win or lose, and extra rake because of tilt would be minimal. Most people just think its rigged because they see more bad beats, forgetting that online rooms go through 2-3x the amount of hands that a B&M goes through an hour

Im 18 and stuck in a dorm studying most nights.

Also, the convo about it being rigged i've come to the following conclusion:

People believe what ever they want to believe. So, I no longer care. If it's rigged, i've been in win mode and loss mode my fair share and I'm still way ahead. I see opponents make plenty of mistakes and I can win in these games. In the games where my opponents didnt make many mistakes, my winrate reflected that. So it's a pretty balanced rigging.

Assuming you're playing for a main/secondary source of income:
    1. Time efficiency. Aside from the speed the cards are dealt, factor in travel time, time spent waiting for a seat, etc. You'll find that your profit per hour is a lot less than you expected. Travelling to the closest casino for me takes 1.75 hrs by car and 2.5+hrs by bus (assuming no traffic jam).
    2. Extra expenses. Live poker has a lot of seemingly insignificant expenses: toking for every non-trivial pot, tipping the waitress, gas/bus fare, a more expensive dinner than usual, etc.
    3. Personal Safety. It won't happen often, but there's always a chance that someone will snap when they lose. Recently at the local b&m, some guy (Psycho) at the 20/40 lost a big pot with flopped quads to a runner-runner straight flush. Psycho followed the guy into the bathroom, pulled a knife on him, and demanded his money back.

Ok, I don't want to make this another "online poker is rigged!" thread but I have to respond to the age old comeback of "What could we possibly gain by rigging the cards?" Let me preface this by saying I was CONVINCED when I started playing online that sites were rigged. Now, let's just say I am ALMOST convinced that they are NOT rigged. However, online sites WOULD gain by rigging the cards. True, they don't care if one person wins or loses so it's not personal. But if I deal out a full house to one player and quads to another player, what happens to the action? And when the action increases, what happens to the rake? That's all I'm saying.

pleeeeeeeease no more discussion about how online poker is rigged. It makes me want to hit my head against a cement wall repeatedy. (reminiscent of what its like to talk to these 'omg online poker is rigged' nubs)

    Why do I play online?
the nearest casino is an hour away, and gas is expensive. Id much rather roll out of bed and sit there taking peoples money while brushing my teeth than drive an hour to play the same game. (However, it is nice to go to a B&M casino sometimes, just for the atmosphere).

The main reason I play online though, is because its more profitable. In a real casino I'm probably lucky to see 20-30 hands/hr. Online I can see+40 hands an hour per table, and since I play 5-6 tables at once, thats 200-300 hands per hour, which means 10x the chance to take someones money. No contest here.
