    Default Bodog $10NL

This is my first post although I have been reading everything on this site for the last 4 months. Quick question for all of you....
I play Bodog's $10NL ring games, my BR is $150. I usually play about 3-4 hours a night. I have been playing online for about 1 month now. I play a tight-aggressive style and I do ok, meaning I have lost only 1 buyin in the last month. I usually win around $2-3 dollars a session. Am I on the right track or am I wasting my time? I see all your signatures and your bankrolls are in the thousands..Did you all start of with small rolls and grind your way up?

I say start with what you can afford. I fortunately didn't have to spend much time at the lower levels because I had someone stake me. It was the best thing that ever happened to me, I started making some decent money right away (instead of winning $2-$3 per session).

I would suggest that you deposit a couple hundred more in your account and move up to NL25. But only if you can handle it (meaning you're not taking money away from rent and that you'd be "okay" losing this money even though you most likely never will if you keep reading this site).

But the $100 game there is so good...

I had been playing 25NL with $50 bankroll many times when I first started. I say many times because I kept busting out and then waiting weeks and then depositing again. I tben put in $150 and started trying to play tighter. I went down to less than $50, but then got up over $400. If I only put in my usual $50, then I would not have had enough bankroll to turn it around. Over the past week I've lost almost $150 of that. Many many tough breaks and some poor decisions. But, I still have enough money and confidence to turn it around again.

A large enough bankroll is very key. I didn't even start with enough and don't recommend you try it. If you are not already, try to multitable your current limit to see if you can make more money at that level. Once you reach 15+ max buyins at 25NL, then give it a whirl. I would still multitable when you get to that level.

I am young without a good job so after i was up to a million play chips i finaly just put in 50$ (which was a lot when i first started)and played 10NL and a couple 5$ and went down to like 30 then finally placed in a couple SnG's and started doing better in ring and got up to 150 and it just kept slowly going up and i ended up cashing out 350 of 450 and am back up to 350 again. I mostly just grind the 5$ tourneys on stars there are many fish these days.

You should start with more than 50$ for sure. I also play tight-aggressive

I dont think I am ready to Multi-table yet..I have tried it in the past and have not been successful. I cant seem to concentrate on both games at the same time.

I started with $100 on Pokerstars in late August, and the free $10 on Royal Vegas. I now have almost $1,200 from all that. Just be patient, play within your means, and keep learning and you'll make money very quickly

Similar Story to STIdrivr. After 1 mill in play money I put $50 in Pokerstars, then another $50, worked it up to 300. Took my orig 100 out, then proceeded to lose the rest mostly s&g $5.50. Back to play money till I got another mill, then put $25 in pokerstars. Was down to .90 after buy in to a $1.2 45 player touney and won it! $14 for 1st! wahoo! PLayed another, won it also. Finially I had figured out self discipline again. Was up to $25 again. Started playing $5.50 S&Gs again and did pretty well for a while. Leved off again at $300 up/down/up/down stomach ache etc. Switched to ring games and made $100, then back to tourneys struggled but finally capped $600. Took out $400 to go for bonus on Partypoker. Lost the other $200 in $5.50 tourneys mostly. Shrunk the $400 down to $300, then back to $400 then got the bonus so I had $500. Moved it to Empire and got another $100 bous and was actually up a hundred when that happened so I had $800. I started to understand the ring game pitfalls a little bit but was still losing my stack too often. Moved $500 to Pokerroom for the $200 bonus. Managed to make another $200 in the process, although at one point I moved up to the .50/$1 table and went all in after the flop with AA against a guy who had hit trip Ks. Rivered out with an A to beat him and considered that a devine sign that I should move back down to a level I could afford. Odds dictated that I shoulda been broke down to $300 on that one. Eventually got the bonue and was up $200 from .20/.50 play so now I had 1100. Proceeded to lose $300 mostly to full houses when I matched a pair on the board and lost my stack. I finally figured out that every other hand someone usually has a pocket pair and they WILL call the flop whatever it is! Also started picking my tables more carefully, looking for high player/flop numbers (>%60 is good). Now I have like $1250, and as you see, it has been a rocky road of lessons. This site is great however, the aokrongly post about psychology of losing helped me alot to overcome the stomach aches of up and down swings. Correct decisions are really more important than winning the pot. If I am having a bad run, the best thing for me is to move my game to a different table or go hit some golf balls. That's my 2 cents anyway. I think next I might try the MTT, but I usually don't have that much time. Good luck and have fun.

I noticed alot of you play on Pokerstars, I like Bodog because I can bet on sports... Do any of you play on Bodog at all? Should I be thinking of moving my money to Pokerstars?

    Thanks for the advice.

Pokerstars has more fish, but a lot of people here like Bodog too

Personally, I'd keep money for sports on Bodog, and money for poker on Pokerstars. That way you have the best of both worlds and keep your bankrolls for both things separate.

I sold my playchips @ pokerstars to someone, 1.5 million for $15, i played the 0.01/0,02 tables untill i got $50, then the $10NL untill i got $1200. I dont really care about bankroll in terms of moving up a level, my main focus is how much do i make per session. I left the $10 when I could make $50+ per 4h session, in other words I dominate the competetion. Then I won a touney $1400 so i cashed that baby out and hit the nuddie bar.
I kept winning untill i hit the $200 tables where my opponents became tighter and tight vs tight is just not profitable enough, after a few "break even" sessions i moved down to $50 NL. Untill that point I had always 15-25BB/100, it dropped down to something under 4. So now I am mastering the LAG style and Maniac style so i can switch fears against opponents. Loose vs the tights, tight vs the fish, the general play of the table is irrelvant to me, i play every person differently. I still have the BR for $200NL but I will not return there for at least another month, i just started this lag this week, i have much learning to do.
Total i've been around for ~7 months, i am almost 1 poker year old.

I also started with $150, nearly 2 months ago. The first couple of weeks I had to get used to online play (as I had only been playing live games for about 5-6 months before), so I basically only won about $50-$100 playing $10NL. I then cleared a bonus and was rolled to play $25NL. From there, a nice TAG style of play saw my roll rocket up to $900 in about 2 weeks of solid, nightly play (with a massive downswing in there somewhere were I lost like $350 in a week). The last month has been really slow; I moved to Multi-poker to get their reload bonus, only to find that Party had moved away from Multi so I was now faced with clearing 6,000 more hands in a room full of rocks (I lost about $300 here but the $500 bonus kept me up). The last two weeks I've split my money between party poker and poker stars (I prefer ring games at party and tournies at stars, but I'm trying to clear a $150 bonus at stars atm so am playing the other way around). Basically these last two weeks have been a real grind; I think I've just been getting a cold run where my daily variance either sees me lose a tiny bit or win a tiny bit. The last couple of days have been good to me though (up about $200 and placed 2nd in my first MTT final table), so I'll just keep at it

I also find it hard to concentrate at muti-tabling, but this seems to work for me; open say 2 tables at a lower limit where I am very comfortable (in this case $25NL) and camp, then open another 1 or 2 tables at $50NL (where I am fairly new) and concentrate on these two tables.

Anyway, I think all it takes is time and then once it clicks you should be able to break the $2-3 per session stat (I was lucky that I started playing live games before I hit the net, which allowed me to get into the game faster than had I started from just play money/scratch)...

There is no way that Pokerstars has more fish. Bodog has the best cash games I've played. Bodog is also terrible for sports betting. If you are just playing 5$ here and there then no point signing up any place else, but there are much better sportsbooks online.

    Pokerstars = MTTs only

    Downswinging holla!
The best way to build a bankroll is SNG's and cash games. SNG's helped me tremendously building my BR. I played those and small 25 NL cash games, and my BR grew quickly. I kept moving up in SNG buy ins and cash games and did very well for myself. Now I play 50 + buy in SNGs on stars and also 2-4 NL cash games. SNGs give you great experience and if you play solidly you can be very profitable.

I startet by depositing 300 on ub, thinking I was a new hotshot headsup player ( looool ), I proceeded to loose 275 of it in a couple hours, playing nl headsup.

then I figured maybe I wasnt such a big cannon at all. So I too the rest of the day off, next day I startet grinding 1 dollar sngs. After a couple of 100 of em I had 100$ wich I startet doing 5$ sngs with. Then I lucked out and won a 5$ 600 player tourney. That was 3 months after I initially investet the 300, so it took a looong time ( in my oppinion ).

Since then ive been doing 10 and 20 sngs, but stopped that like 3 months ago, cause frankly, it got boring.

Then I moved to cashgames, and discovered bodog... omg... thats all in gonna say bout that place.

And right now im just destroying the 100nl tables there.

So basicaly, it dosnt matter if u deposit 50 or 500 at the start, you WILL have to learn, and theres only one way to do that, and thats by playing. And the first long time u play u will lose money, so in my oppinion stick to depositing 50$, grind the low limits, cut ur losses, and hope u improve. When u do improve, and build ur bankroll, u can then move up.

My Bankroll is finally up over $300. I tried the $25NL game at Bodog and doubled my buy-in right away. Then I went on a cold streak, losing a couple buy-ins. BLAH!
