Why is he going to call a bigger bet when he''s folded to the bet you made. If he had a hand that would call a bigger bet its likely to have you crushed.
What would you do if he had check raised you on the river ? especially if you had bet bigger? with straights and flushes possible you couldn't call but may well find that you price yourself into losing even more money . say you had bet $5 on the river , you'd have $1.70 ish left to call and a $16.50 pot .
