I think mostly you should play as AFChung says above. However, if you flop top set with pocket Aces on a dry board like A 7 2 rainbow, nobody is calling your bet. If the board is that dry go ahead and check, especially if you did not raise pre-flop. Nobody can put you on Trip Aces and hopefully the turn will bring something to help the villian. But make sure if the turn brings something like a 3 flush, or a possible 4 to a str8 for the cillian you bet it real hard at that point. Hopefully the turn makes him 2pr and you can capatilize.

There is no ONE WAY to play a set, you have to consider multiple factors
1. Opponent tendencies
2. Textrure of the flop
3. Stack sizes
4. Your own table image
5. Did you raise pre-flop?
6. Was it raise pre-flop at all?
