Best strategy when flopping trips?

I'm new to this site so please excuse me if this has been discussed before. I've been in situations where I've been dealt let's say two tens. I've either called or bet pre-flop. The flop rolls out and I make a set. I think I should then push a little more aggressively, because I always seem to lose to someone sucking out and making their straight. How would you play my hand? Thanks in advance.

Learn about bet sizing and pot odds. The idea being , you give your opponent bad pot odds with correct bet sizing. Thus forcing him/her to make mistakes.

The normal play now is to lead out with the flopped set. You want to get value, so you have to make your opponent want to call or have to call. Always be aware of your opponents stack size and the pot size. Make him want to draw out on you. Pray that he doesn't.

You don't want to check. Checking is the wrong move. We want to appear weak. However, we aren't checking. The position is of importance. But, I don't care. If it's checked to me. I am leading out. I want a call, so I am careful what to bet. Depending on who's in and what their range of hands are.

There is no definitive answer here. It's wrong to say that it's wrong 100% of the time to check when you hit your set, it's dependent on a huge number of factors, especially our opponent. We simply want to be doing whatever helps us get maximum value from our cards. More often than not (especially at the micros) this will mean keeping it nice and simple and leading out. Just remember there are very rarely any absolutes. One of the joys of poker (and of this forum) is to examine, discuss and arrive on the best solution to a problem.

Well it has been halted for a while actually. Mainly because I got up to $17k and withdraw back down to $10k. But I'm back up to $18k right now. Been hovering between 16k and 18k for like 1.5 months. Things been kinda slow. But I'm hoping to start running better, playing better, in the near future.

The best strategy- and this is proven by the scientists at the Faculty of mathematics at the University of Massachusetts, is to bet 2/3 of the pot on flop, 1/3 of the pot on turn and 1/1 bet on the river. Any reraises should always be called, but on river we must reraise back 3 times the reraise or push all in if stacks are not deep enough.

This strategy yields an average of 40bb per hand over a sample size of 100K simulations.

Every time you deviate from this strategy your winrate will drop as result.

(Not sure whether I need to make clear that this is bs or not, but if you found the strategy intriguing I suggest you start thinking deeper about poker.)

I like to check if I know who my opponents are and how they play or if there is nothing out there that people can really draw to. If there is a draw out there I try to bet for value

I think mostly you should play as AFChung says above. However, if you flop top set with pocket Aces on a dry board like A 7 2 rainbow, nobody is calling your bet. If the board is that dry go ahead and check, especially if you did not raise pre-flop. Nobody can put you on Trip Aces and hopefully the turn will bring something to help the villian. But make sure if the turn brings something like a 3 flush, or a possible 4 to a str8 for the cillian you bet it real hard at that point. Hopefully the turn makes him 2pr and you can capatilize.

There is no ONE WAY to play a set, you have to consider multiple factors
1. Opponent tendencies
2. Textrure of the flop
3. Stack sizes
4. Your own table image
5. Did you raise pre-flop?
6. Was it raise pre-flop at all?

depending what the flop is i would do accordingly:
no flush or straight draw i would check hoping to punish someone with ace king
but if there is a draw out there i would bet and try to make them commit all there chips to chase there draw

that is enough of these ridiculous threads and the obv post-whoring that goes on in them.

If anyone posts a thread that obviously has been discussed 50+ times before your thread will be locked.
