    Default Beginner Bankroll and Questions

    Hey all,
I know you get a lot of proper bankroll questions but I wanted to get some different views. I have taken a break recently from poker. I am ready to start playing again. I love the game and I want to get better but I want to make money as well. I started out playing online at party poker. I put in 100.00 and played sit and goes and lost my money about 3 times. Then I ventured into cash games. I just enjoyed them a lot better. I put in another 100.00 and turned it into 2,300 playing 1/2 NL Holdem. My poker buddy said I went on an unusual run. Maybe I did but I felt I did good against at that level. I loved party poker. Too bad they banned us players. Anyway I agree I was playing above my bankroll but I wanted to make money and get better. I don't want to start out playing micro limit. But I was going to put in 500.00 and go from there. I have used the search engine and most are saying I need 20 buy-ins for the level that I want to play. I would like some more opinions on this. I got poker tracker and I am going to start using it hard. I want to be successful at this. But I want to be realistic as well. What level would you all recommend?

Recommend starting out go with 40 buy-ins till you develop winning game. I play mostly SnGs myself, but for cash games at $500, I'd still play at the $10 level ($0.05/$0.10) till you get your game down a bit and start winning. I'd say once you get your BR up to maybe $700+, then move up to the $25 level. It's risk vs. reward. Minimize the risk, maximize the long-term reward.

start at $25nl. 20 buyins is plenty, just be sure to drop down to $10nl if you drop below $400 at any point.

    good luck.

Start at 10NL, move up to 25NL win your BR is at $600. You have to get your focus back so why not pick on the weaklings and get your game back on track.

I suggest starting with $500 but play 10NL until you're convinced you're beating the game, then move up. Grinding a bankroll out of 10NL is a waste of time if you don't have to, just went through that a couple of months ago and it sucked.

Start at 25NL to develop a winning game, and move up when confident that you do have a winning game. It sounds to me that you want to play higher levels more than keep your roll. That in of itself is fine and it may suit you best to move up early, but we advise you to start around micro so that you go up there with a game that can win.

If you feel you can beat any level up to 200NL, (and that is really your call), I ask you the following question:

For how much of your bankroll are you willing to spin a fair coin, winner take all? The answer is the max buyin you should play for.
This is not my signature. I just write this at the bottom of every post.

Whatever level you want, if you don't mind redepositing if you get unlucky.

If you don't plan on redepositing, then I recommend 10NL.

25NL. I am assuming you are a competent player (rather than simply a lucky one at $200NL). If you take an honest look at yourself and don't think you are good enough, then start at 10NL.

I don't really want to repeat too much of the previous posts but I pretty much agree here.

If you can happily redeposit or are playing for the thrill of higher stakes, move up to where you like, but unless you have a nice hot streak when you first start, don't expect to still have a BR after a couple of weeks.

If you want to build a roll, then I'd advise 25NL. You have enough buy-ins if you're sensible and can move down if you need to, but it sounds like you'll play badly if you only have $10 on the table. One of the worst things you can do is play over rolled when you are craving higher stakes.

I always buy-in for the max amount. If I hit the nuts I want to get paid. I think I will play 25nl but some of the not so popular sites only have 20dollar no limit. I am not all about redepositing. I have made the mistake before of playing at too high a level for my bankroll. Thanks for all of the help. I appreciate everyone different point of view.
