    Default Bankroll Management

    1) What is the max percentage of your bankroll you should bring to a cash/ring game? 10%
    2) At what percentage of your bankroll should you leave the table when you are winning. I.E. You're bankroll is $100 you bring $10 to a $25NL table build it up to $35 and then cash out. Should you cash out at 20% i.e. when your table stack hits $20?

I read that Chris Ferguson is building a bankroll from $0, and he brings 5% to the table and cashes out when the amount he has at the table hits 10% of his total bankroll.

I'm fairly new to online play and bought in at $50 built it up to $130 in a week. Bought in at table for $10 built my stack up to $35 and lost it on one hand AAKKT beaten by trip T's.

    Thanks,
    Dave

follow the link, as i am sure it's better advice than i can give.

that said, here is what i do:

well, first (i almost spelled frist...lol) i have to say one thing: if ferguson is building from $0, how can he bring 5% to the table? sorry, smartass stuff over.

    1) if you play no-limit, you should carry as much over the limit you play as you can stand to risk against variance. meaning, some of us are much more risk adverse than others. some of us can do 10X the limit ($1000 for 100 NL, ie), and some of us would not dare go to 100 NL until we had over $3000. thats up to you. but, i personally, will not be comfortable until 25X, but will "take shots" at a higher level once i get 15X. i moved from 10 to 25 with 10X. went from 25 to 50 with 15X. and went to 100 with 20X. but never was afraid to move back down, if i got on a bad run i wasnt comfortable with (had a feeling it was a skill thing, not just variance).

    2) i dont think you should ever worry about the money you are winning or losing in a session, unless you are showing signs of tilt (drunk, tired, angry, etc). if you are a long-term player, you should already know it's not the specific hands that matter, it's HOW you play the specific hands that lead to long-term winnings. for example, AA will get beat, but you should focus on the 80% it holds up...and get pretty good at knowing when they are beat.

therefore, if you believe you are a winning player in the long run, and have some statistical proof, you only leave when yo want to, not because you have "doubled up."

all you need to do is log more hands, and play each of them the best you can. if you are running hot, PLAY MORE HANDS because variance is coming, and you dont know when. if you are running cold/unlucky, PLAY MORE HANDS because your streak is about to end, and you want to be there when it does. at least, that's the approach i used in sales, and the mindset has worked in both ventures.

research an article by daniel negreanu where he states he makes $80+ and hour playing poker, and only plays from 9am-5pm M-F. something like that, but the article is about playing hands, not worrying about winnings/losings. he would play 8 hrs in a day, and even after losing $1000, he would say, "well, another good day. i made $640. time to clock out and go home."

    good luck.

In regards to Feguson he started his bankroll through playing freerolls.

I think the OP was talking about when Ferguson built a 'roll from $1. He talks about it on a Full Tilt "podcast from the pros."

He lost his first buck, and then on his second he never looked back. He broke bankroll rules only while he had to, because he had to buy in for 10 cents, therefore 10%. After he had a few bucks, he never broke the 5% rule again, although he had to move up and down a few times.

All said he pushed it to over 20K.
