Bad play?

NL$25 ring game.

So I was BB, got to see the the flop for free.

I had T8o. The flop comes 9JQ rainbow. One player raises to $1, the next raises to $2. I decide to re-raise again, to $5. The first player folds, the second one goes all-in, $20 something.

I didnt really have a read on this guy, he was pretty new at the table. So I sat there thinking for a while, but in the end I decided to call anyways.

And, yeah, he did have KT.

Was this bad play or bad luck?

I say bad luck... two pair or a set makes the same play here, maybe even AQ or Q10.

You got 2nd best hand here, good chance he was going AI with two pair or a set to drive away any straight draws. Unless you got a super-strong read on the guy that he only goes AI with the nuts, then Im definitely gonna call here.
