    Default Auto Call

Is a quick all-in by the button an auto call by the BB with 4-4 in heads up?

It's so hard to get the read on whether or not they got a big pair or high cards.

I'm a fish, but I'm going to try to contribute a bit to this board, rather than just asking questions

I think this depends a lot on how your opponent plays. If this is the first hand heads-up, I'd probably fold. In fact, it seems that I'd fold this hand in general in this particular situation.

If you're against higher pair, you're drawing to two outs. If you're against overcards (which is likely), you're looking at a coin flip.

Obviously this depends on the situation, but the vast majority of times this should be an easy fold.

You're forgetting the most important part in your question -- stack sizes.

Its its two completely different situations when there's a $5 push when the blinds are $.5/$1 and when there's something like a a $50 push with $.5/$1 blinds.

BTW you're probably at best a coin-flip, so if you arent getting odds to take a flip, fold
    Goal for 2005: $30k
    So far: $31k

if you just started playing, or if he's never done anything like this before, fold. i'm probably folding anyway, because heads up i find you're either better than them or you're not, there's no need to risk your stack on a slight edge if he has overs, and being way behind if he doesn't. -EV long term IMO, he only needs to have higher pockets ~5-10% of the time to make this -EV for you, which he will. only way i'm calling is if he has been pushing a lot and i'm getting bullied.

Auto fold probably. ANY non PP hand is a coinflip cause its 2 overs he has. Even if you think its a total steal, most times will be 2 overs again so if you wanna flip at that point go ahead and call. 99 and up I say make this auto call.

You only want to call this if you know your opponent is far better than you and you think this is the only way to win or you are severely shortstacked. I'd much rather push with 44 than call.

If the situation is: At best you are coinflip, at worst you are dominated = FOLD

I folded it, and it was first hand, and i had 1.5 to 1 chiplead.

Now that i look over it, why would he go all in right away with a big pocket pair, dont you think at least a shorter stack (not that much shorter) would throw a raise first to try and get a call, if hes confident in his hand. To me, looking back, it showed weakness on his part, and almost as if he didnt want a call, but of course if he did get one he wouldnt be in that bad of a shape.

What are you hoping for? That you'll flop a set? Are you hoping that he has 23o? More than likely he'll have overcards and even if they're as weak as 57o you're in a coin flip situation. If he has a pair which is what these all-in folks usually have (like 77 or 88 or something) then you're a huge dog. Best to just fold.

If you think he's trying to steal the blinds by going all-in then he's probably a bad player. In which case, you're doing him a favor by calling because he'll have his best shot of beating you here.

Usually an all-in like this is done by a desperate player holding a medium pocket pair.

It could also be that you were calling a lot of his raises before and he's hoping you'll do it again here.
