I'm back playing poker after a long time of not playing more than 0-500 hands per month. I know what will happen. I'll destroy 5nl for like 10bb+/100 hands. Then I'll destroy 10nl for about 8bb/100 hands. Than I'll lose my role at 25nl & 50nl. I don't really know why either. I have a laggy style at fr, approx 18/15 that kicks ass at 10nl and under but falls considerably short at 25nl+.

Somewhere in March I decided I am going to dedicate and play 9000 hands every month. So this is the first month. Played about 650 so far.

Does Ultimate Poker have anything to do with Ultimate Bet? (I could google, but this thread is for chatting after all.)

I doubt it's your pre-flop game that is killing you at 25NL+.

Have you considered hiring a coach? Really, a $50 coaching session is only a 2 BI cost to you at that point, so well worth it. Sometimes it's just a tiny thing that you know but don't realize that you know it. Having someone say it out loud to you can be a big deal.

No, it's because the owner of the site also owns UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) so it's to do with the branding

I always imagined coaching required more like a 10 hr investment.

It doesn't have to be a long session or even multiple sessions. I bought one session from bikes back when he was coaching, and it did me wonders. I went from a break-even 5NL player to a winning 10NL player in about a week after just going over and over what we talked about.

(Well, I did have an epiphany about flop textures about that time, so that certainly helped, but it was probably inspired by the latter half of my session with bikes.)

For me, 15 min coaching + 20 min live sweat + 15 min coaching would be ideal. If there was a follow up HH review the next day, I think I would get all I needed for a few weeks or more just digesting what we talked about.

Something that would have helped me out is if I would have had a specific goal when the session started. After all, bikes didn't know where I was as a player, and so we did what he guessed would be best (he was awesome, but maybe I could have gotten more out of it if I took the time to pinpoint a specific issue I was having.)

Another day, another person joining Team Ivey - Nicholas Cardyn. They've also hired Allen Kessler

New WSOP event announced - $1,100 No Limit Hold'em Accumulator

3 day one flights, you can play in each of the Day 1s and you take the total amount to Day 2. Sounds like a wonderful way for poker rooms to get more rake, says the cynic in me, and not a great thing for WSOP when $1.1k is pennies to the regs but quite a lot to more casual players

And while rebuys ended in 2009, the Little One for One Drop in Las Vegas (bracel event this summer) will have unlimited re-entries.

    Thoughts?

I can't tell you how many times I have thought "goodbye Xnl's" and have these horrible runs. I hope this isn't your case for sure. It may be becasue I don't follow the same BRM rules as you though.

The only extremely successful poker player I know (ignoring interwebs peoples) says he couldn't give a Shit about BRM and would beg, borrow or steel more money if needed as he is so sure he can beat the game, and he started by throwing every penny he had available on credit cards onto a site and never looked back. He had no url commitments though which helped.

He makes about £100k - 150k pa from poker and has done for several years. So I guess he's a rich mug.

There's massive variance however good you are at a game. Maxing out credit cards to play just shows a complete lack of understanding as how how variance works. Just because it's worked doesn't mean its a good strategy or one to follow - a lot of people will have tried the same thing and it just happens your mate was the one who it worked for

ya have a few months of running bad with huge credit card repayment bills coming in... seems the risk of ruin is pretty huge.

Also loss of future life EV in that once you declare bankrupt your credit rating is fucked.

Happy April everyone, great to be back after a long hiatus. I am a long time member and was a 50-100nl regular at Pokerstars until: (a) they kicked out US players but more importantly; (b) daughter #2 was born. Three years later I have the time to get back into playing poker and am on Bovada playing 50nl 6 max at the moment, probably settling back into 100nl at some point.

After such a long break, it has been like riding a bike getting back into the groove, but with a very different perspective. I appreciate more the time I have to play when I get the chance.

    Anyway, good luck this month!
