all-in question

Okay, so I was called a terrible poker player today and I need to know why. I've heard of this scenario before, but I never understood why it was such a bad play.

The guy on my left is forced all in with only 70 chips(smaller than the blinds)

The remaining three players including my self call him. I don't remember if there was a pre-flop raise or not, I'm guessing no.

I flop top pair queens. I raised and then was called a bad player because the other guy was all-in and he only could win 70 chips. I think the other two guys folded before the one yelled at me

first, this is a cash game section of FTR an your thread reffers to a tournament if i am not mistaking.
second, try to make some sense when you write a post, cause this is adsurd. give blind level, stacks, what's your position, what's you hand preflop what's the flop and how action goes pre/post flop.

maybe then someone could tell you if you played the hand wrong or right.

I think this is a much better place for a new poster than the mtt or sng forum no matter what the format. It's still the bc yeah?

It's more than likely true that you are indeed a terrible player. Your post itself implies that you have very little understanding of the game itself. Fear not tho, there's still hope. Most of us came to this site terrible players. A lot of us have gone from terrible to not so terrible in just a few short years. Some of us have even graduated to being just plain bad players while others have actually gotten pretty good. Admitting that you suck is the first step.

Now that you know you suck there are a few things you can do about it, coming to this site is an excellent choice if you're trying to get better. You have work to do tho. Your first assignment is to find the hand history and copy paste it in this thread, someone will convert it for you. Go.

it's possible that they were just trying to knock the shortstack out because of a payout jump. you betting the flop and forcing them to fold only raises the equity of the shortstack, so they might call you bad because of this. I'm not saying that you should always check down spots like this, but imagine if you're in a double or nothing and there are 6 of 10 people left. the shortstack is all in, and everyone calls. what you make from betting doesn't really make you more real money, and may distress some of the other shorter stacks.

The sooner you train yourself to pay no attention to comments made at the tables about your ability, the better. Whether such comments be negative or positive doesn't matter.

...This is wrong a lot of the time it'll show you how people think which is the most important thing in poker by far.



One of the very first things you should understand about donkament poker is that anytime there is a pay jump you should be trying to eliminate players especially in situations like this and especially if there was no side pot. Even if there was a side pot in this case your hand is not even close to strong enough to consider eliminating players from the pot and allowing the shorty to have a TONNE more equity since you basically just took equity from EVERYONE else including yourself and donated it to the fish.

Edit: If this was a fifty50 and you have a monster chip lead. Keeping the shorty MAY be better depending on other stacks and positions of said stacks because you may be able to abuse everybody else on the bubble.

Wow, beginner poker forum and it takes 5 replies before someone answers a pretty simple question that a lot of us have had to learn ourselves. Way to go BC.

Imthenewfish andIcanhastreebet are right, they're complaining because the biggest benefit here is (usually) knocking out the shortstack as against getting the other guys to fold. There are exceptions either way, but its a general concept tourney folk follow. Think of it this way, the less players left in the tournament, the greater the share of the prizemoney you can get.
