Default AK oop shortstacked (20-50bb) 0.10/0.25NL

Okay, so I have been playing for a while on shortstack tables, realizing that was quite a mistake of me to do, so, soon I intend to switch to deepstack tables to play some real poker game.
But before that, here is a typical situation that makes me pull my hair out in this dreaded form of poker.

    So, 20-50bb, 0.1/.25$ NL holdem.
    A hypothetical situation.

I raise AK from mid position to 0.75$. I have 12$ stack.
I get called by a unknown tight player from late position. He has 8$ stack.
    Flop comes AK2 rainbow.
    I bet 1.25, he calls.
    Turn comes 9.
    I bet 2.75, he calls.
    River comes 5.
    I bet 3.25, he calls.

    And shows KK...or 22, whatever.
So, my question is, am I destined to get stacked here? Is there any way I could've played this better?

There's nothing inherently wrong with shallow tables, but at microstakes the rake will absolutely kill you.

Also don't feel obligated to raise that big with such a shallow stack. Raising to $0.50 is fine.

Without some sort of extraordinary read, you should expect to be ahead of his stacking-off range on this board, so there's nothing wrong with it.
