Default AA vs. Possible Full House/4 of a Kind???

I've only been playing on Merge for a few days.. but I've gotten a bit of a feel for some of the 4nl regs already. The villain here was one of them. He was 24/12 and I had seen him open-limp with low/middle pairs on a few occasions. Unfortunately for this hand... I figure 99 is about the top of his pocket pair range here... but in his range.

When he called my raise I was able to eliminate AJ/KJ/QJ type hands from his range in my mind. I don't think he was ever going to open limp with JJ or better. So at this point I was pretty sure he was holding a pocket pair 22-99.

He took his time to call my flop bet. I was a bit unsure what to make of that, was he thinking about folding or wondering if he should raise me right there?

The river card didn't please me too much. I had to consider what he was calling my pre-flop raise and my flop bet with.. 9-9 had to be a possibility... 4-4 was certainly in his open limp range but would he have called my first 2 bets with that? Was I wrong and perhaps he called my pre-flop bet with AJ?

At any rate.. I decided to check-call the river and not risk a re-raise.

Did I make the right play here?

you shouldn't be checking the river because you're worried about getting raised. You check the river because it's bloody near impossible to get called by worse, and there's tons of missed draws.

Both your flop and turn bets need to be bigger also and as played yes c/c the river.

When he called my raise I was able to eliminate AJ/KJ/QJ type hands from his range in my mind.
wat no. you can discount AJ because he probably raises that, KJ too some of the time, but if he's limping those, he's virtually never folding any of those hands, or JT or T9 for that matter. You're over-prioritizing low pocket pairs when assigning ranges, and not talking about all the connected/suited cards that a loose player like this is limp/calling.

It sounds like you might need to read up on hand combinations.

Your absolutely right about me not considering the connected/suited cards he could have here.. honestly that didn't cross my mind.. so thanks for that I shall consider that in the future.

But how many of those types of hands is he calling my pre-flop raise with?

loose players tend to limp/call more than they limp/fold, and someone playing 24/12 is probably limping mostly pretty enough cards that he wants to see a flop with. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a 24/12 limp/call 64s.

bad players like to see a lot of flops and there's more combinations of unpaired hands than there are paired hands. keep that in mind when assigning ranges

Think about the pot odds you are giving him on the flop + turn.

Best river line is c/c, spades/T8s/QT and maybe small pairs + gutters if he called 2 streets will usually bluff if you ck here. Sometimes he has a nine but overall it's a +EV call.
