    Default 6max transition

So after looking at my game and fixing certain aspects i.e. not opening shitty pairs from UTG and not cold calling with such a wide variety of crap, i've been beating FR 10NL for like 5bb over a couple hundred thousand hands. I've started taking shots at 25NL but i'm also interested in playing some 6max but after a few sessions I seem to suck complete balls at it.

I've adjusted my opening ranges accordingly but I think perhaps my postflop play isn't developed enough. I've seen differing opinions on 6max for newer players, some people say to stick to FR for a pretty long time and others say 6max is great for developing postflop play and aggressive tendencies.

What are some of your guys thoughts on the matter and what advice (if any) would you give in regards to adapting your game for shorthanded play?

    Cheers.

If you suck balls at 6max you probably suck balls from the last 6 seats on a full ring table, in particular, you probably suck balls from playing in the blinds - so I'd work on getting a better understanding of late position play (button vs blinds, blinds vs button, blind vs blind) and then you'll crush full ring or 6max or whatever. The most potential win rate addition is going to come from these spots. Potential win rates are pretty capped when you are opening UTG into a bunch of people. If your opponents have massive leaks from the blinds then your potential button win rate will skyrocket if you abuse their leaks correctly.

I think it's probably just personal style, I don't much like FR myself.

I think if you're fancying a change to 6max just suck up some losses at first if necessary - see it as a training expense. As long as you're reviewing hand histories, learning new stuff each session and so on I doubt you'll spend long as a losing player at 6max 10NL if you consistently beat FR at that limit. If you've only played a little 6max yet anyway, it could just be variance.

As far as adapting your game goes, well I only play 6max so I guess I can't say from experience, but it seems to me that just as M2M said, when UTG, UTG+1 and UTG+2 fold at a FR table, you're now playing 6max, so it's not as though it should really be any different.

Another thing that you didn't mention is how many tables you play - if it's more than about 4, it would surely help to drop back to like 2 or 3 tables of 6max at first, then add more as you get comfortable with it.

Cheers for the advice guys. Yeah i guess technically it shouldn't play massively different but the little i've played it just seems WAY laggier than the average FR games on Stars but this could be complete coincidence.

Blind stealing and defense is definitely an area i need to really put some work into, i think i'm being far too cautious and tight playing from the blinds.
