    Default 6max noob

I'm just starting out playing some 10NL 6max. I'm not sure if I like it yet, but it's early.

Anyone have any thoughts as to why it's so much more popular than FR (it seems to me)? Just take a look at the microstakes at Prima-- there was one 10 handed table going last night when I was playing at 10NL. The rest were SH. And a large percentage of the HH's posted on the SSNL section in 2+2 are SH.

some suggest its because you can attain a higher winrate at 6max.
e.g if you have a big avantage over your opponents playing more hands per hour helps to bring out that advantage more and more.

play 17/7 on prima and destroy it.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'll try this 6max thing for 10k hands or so and see where I'm at (though if I drop 10 buy ins I'll take that as a sign that I'm strictly a FR nit and probably will jump ship). With all the minraising PF I can tell my starting requirements erode somewhat. I have opened my PFR range to stay active, but do you just call on the button with something like JTs in a minraised pot with 2 others in already? I tend to run 21/7 FR when I feel like I'm playing my best, though I'd like to get my PFR to 10 with the same VPIP. Still can't figure out the best spots to do that.

It'll be harder to push your PFR stats up much because so many hands will see limpers and minraisers who prevent you from position raising with hands like A8, 97s and 67o on the button.

I think 6max is more popular because it brings in more rake for the site, which is why they provide more 6max tables. Crypto introduced 6max last summer and nowadays I'd say 75%+ of the tables are 6max.

6max is more popular because fish can play a wider range of hands and be involved in more exciting situations while still losing less than they would at Full Ring. Remember fish like ACTION.
It also doesn't hurt that they see 6 people playing at WPT final tables, and showing down with 3rd pair or pulling naked bluffs.
Playing live . . . thanks alot Bin Laden.

More hand per hour = more money for a winning player.

No doubt the pokersites like SH tables, but 6max is popular with players. I think I saw a chat with Lee Jones and he said something about how if they didn't limit the number of SH tables at Stars the FR tables wouldn't get any play.

Ah, that makes perfect sense. Monkey see, monkey do (or fish, as it were...).

I was at a decent loose 10NL table last night but got stacked twice by the same lagtard in a set over set situation and a runner runner backdoor flush that ran down my set of kings. I should be happy for that action, but it's bad for the psyche.

lemonade was a popular drink and it still is
I just deposited at Prima and immediately noticed this as well. There was one FR table going and like 15 6 max tables at .10/.20 NL.

I rather enjoy it so far. I'm playing around 19/13 and that's usually on the nit end of things at those stakes. They make so many mistakes preflop and even more postflop, so more hands = more opportunity to make money.

Maybe we can compare experiences after 10k hands.

I don't think I'm being unreasonable when I say that 6max is for better players.

At FR you can just play like a machine, follow hand-charts or whatever, it's demoralising and boring. 6max is where you start playing poker.

Stick at it, you'll learn a hell of a lot more at 6max than you ever would at FR.

I am not quite sure if this makes sense but I made more money playing Full Ring but I have far more fun playing 6-max. I honestly believe that 6-max is for better players. My post-flop skills have improved dramatically since playing exclusively 6-max.

I finally had a decent session last night. Finished up $25 on the 10NL tables, more than making up for the bad sessions prior. The only difference this time was that I didn't get 4 outed and crap like that. People calling down PSB's with TPNK, middle pair, etc. It was nice to have a set get paid off, finally.

Got absolutely decimated at Party 25NL FR working on my bonus, though. Seems the shit luck moved onto my Party account.

    It's balance to the universe.
Last month I dumped about $80 plus my Empire bonus while I cleared a Prima bonus and did okay.

This month I lost my entire prima bonus and much of the deposit (a lot at the $10NL 6-max tables) while I was up some at Empire and cleared their reload.

We better co-ordinate which sites we're on

But seriously gl with the 6-max. I've started playing some really low micro-stakes SH stuff on stars because I just find the adjustment (and the swings) so hard to handle.

I'll have no complaints at all with my Party decimation if the Steelers win by a touchdown on Sept 7th. [see the Mansion thread in Sportsbetting if you don't know what I'm talking about]

    of course you do.
JTs is a good hand. You've got the multiple possibilities for straights, flush possibility, AND you have the button?!?! That seems ideal to me. Chances are, your hand is probably than theirs if they're minraising. Especially considering you're playing 10NL, i'm sure you can afford the... what is it... 10 extra cents to see a flop? The minraising could mean any hand that is mediocre. The two callers probably have 7/9 and 4/6 respectively, and the guy that minraised probably has K/8 or A/3. Unless you're tight or passive, I'd definitely call and bet the flop if it looked pretty enough. Then again, I'm a LAG, and I don't play 10NL, but that's me.

    I agree with this statement.
All I do is play 6max, and I definitely think it's more of a psychological game.
I never had any success at full ring, it's good because when you have the nuts, alot more players are involved, but for the same reason, if you have the 2nd best hand, there's an increased likelihood that someone else has the best hand.
