    Or the "max" buy-in to be more precise.

    the max buy-in is usually 100x the big blind

    50nl -> .25/.50 blinds

    To add to the confusion some sites allow "more than max" buyins. For some reason it's been completely standard for online poker rooms to have a buyin limit of 100 big blinds. The max buyin has become the term that indicates what level you're playing - maybe it just sounds cooler to say you play ($)25nl than it does to say that the big blind in your game is 25 cents.

    I'm mentioning this because, as I understand it, people still refer to a game with a $0.10/$0.25 blind structure as 25nl, even if you are playing on a table where the max buyin is $50. Thus we come to the point where the max buyin isn't what we call the table. Confused? You won't be after this episode of... ok too late for little European old me and even stupid shit is funny to me.
