10Nl- 99 call on river?

guy was like.. "yea lay it down" after the hand. seen him play cards like 78s and limped alot. He tried bluffing by going all in with 2nd pair on an A high flop later to bust then leave -_-
should i have checked the flop?
anything i could have done anything differently?

Ideally you should have worked that out before you check the river.
If he's the "you check, I bet" type of fish then check-calling is maybe even better to get value from missed draws or get him to turn bottom pair into a bluff.

I'm the type of player that dont raise on 99, i prefer to check/call and hope for another 9 turns up on the flop, if not, and if they bet high, i will fold.
If they bet under bb or the same, i will chech/call again, and hope for the 9 to turn up.

So i would not end up in a situation like you.

why would we c/f turn? The 5 isn't a bad card. It doesn't really change things. He can have worse pairs still and even 68. By betting smallish on the river we can extract from worse pairs but by checking we allow him to shove/bet a wide range which makes it a call.

what about a turn c/shove? good board to float and it's a mandatory bet by all of his air and we'll value town him when he has a 7 because our hand can so easily be unpaired high cards to him.

I dont like a c/call because there are a lot of bad rivers for our hand. Straight cards, flush cards, over cards, I think it's a high-variance cross your fingers c/call on the river if that was your plan on the turn.

High variance is sweet though!

But, a turn c/shove may be good, it depend on how often he's aggro. If he's one of those "monkey checked to monkey bet" or whatever type of players then yeah c/shove would be sexy. I just think we get a lot of value by betting. I'm not really scared of flush cards or over cards on the river. Depends on his stats but if we are scared of like K7 on the river then we have to add in a bunch of cards (7x hands) in his range anyways making it a call. He's also shown that he can turn his showdownable hands into bluffs. That last read may have been after this hand so meh.

that was my point, it's really a bad flop to cbet (not with 99, but usually) because everything can float. And if the guy is floating he'll likely bet his entire range on the turn and if we check-shove he can still call it off worse than us with pair+draws, flush draws and even a pair of 7s.

I'm not checking that flop though multiway with an overpair. But I think you are agreeing with me here.

Anyways, yeah I am saying c/shoving is probably ok as is betting. I'd just lean towards betting. You do make a point of course, but I thought you wanted to c/f turn?

hm... i like this

If you can win the hand more than 27% of the time, it's a good call. So if there's more than a 1/4 chance he is bluffing you can call. In general I probably don't bet the turn without some history or read on the guy.. and the fold is ok I think, but with the information you had later this is more a call ofcourse.
