This is a great idea. I dont know who would need to run with this idea, but it is a GREAT idea.

As a newer member, I know that I am missing out on a lot of material that used to be on this forum from some of the great players. Most of that information is not available anymore. Guys like Soupie, Aces, Michael1123, Rippy, etc, etc.

I would definitely pay out my money to get either compilations of the very best posts by some of these and other successful players, or books of original material discussing strategy, etc.

Poor poker players hide, ignore, cover, and "overlook" their mistakes, and their loses. They skip over unpleasant results. They don't tell friends and family about loses or problems with their game. They keep secrets.

Know why?

Because they like playing poker and are scared that if they let people know they're bad then they'll have to quit. Plus it feels bad to be bad. And they think they can fix the issues without acknowledging them publicly and putting a real plan together to treat them like what they are - major holes in their game.

Pro's don't do that. Performance Poker players don't do that. You shouldn't do that. Here's why.

If you have a little hole in your game, a little leak, some little teensy thing you like to hold onto, like paying a little more than drawing odds or playing a hand slighly out of position, or making that move at the pot that is a neg EV move, but it makes you feel good when it hits - and that little problem costs you $100 per month in lost earnings.

THEN, if you plan in the future on doubling your stakes and doubling your tables played or time at the tables, then that little issue you didn't want to address when it was small will cost you $48,000 (over 10 years).

(you can check the math: it's $100 x 2 (double stakes) x 2 (double tables or time) x 12 (months in a year) x 10 years.

Most mistakes and holes are even worse. For most players these leaks are the ENTIRE DIFFERENCE between slightly losing to break even poker, and month after month net earnings.

Not to mention the Negative Synergy that happens when you make a bad play, go on a tilt-fest, and lose more than you should or can afford. All because you like betting your draw from early position instead of checking it and folding to a bet that doesn't give you appropriate pot odds to call.

Hey man....what's the rush? Why 6 months? Can you hold off for another 6? I just turned the corner and I"m making some money now (fueled by your posts about patching holes in my game). If everyone reads this, my profits will suffer. I guess I have 6 months on them at least.

Seriously though, this book will help so many people. All the poker books are about poker strategy and they leave it to the person to figure out how analyze their own play on a regular basis. Well, we aren't smart enough to think of that on our own. After reading your posts I said to myself - "gee whiz beave, I reckon I should start trying to look at my play for leaks. Maybe I suck because I play poorly - not because everyone is smarter than me". Ever since then, I have applied myself and I'm easily making money every time I play. It's strange how easy it is to fix things.

Your not making your money off the players that buy poker books and study them anyway

Well, buying books and applying what you learn don't always go hand in hand. Some people figure it's better worth their while to skim over the fun parts of books and then go play. Just like some people (me until last month) figure it's more fun to play poker than to pour over hand histories and their own stats to find leaks and correct them. As far as I can tell, this book will direct more focus to that aspect of poker. People (me) have to be hit over the head sometimes.

Here's the bad news first. Openings in the "review" forum are closed. We have over 30 reviewers and commenters for phase 1 of the book. That's probably too many, but we're going with it. So, those who recently requested to review and edit, sorry.

THE GOOD NEWS. The good news is that the first 17 subjects have been reviewed and edited to rough draft status. The reviewers are presently voting on which 2 subjects to make "public". So, early next week there will be two subjects posted to the public side of http://edudlive.com/forums/index.php - which means all can read them. And I will post them on FTR - the Best Poker Forum in the World.

Since so much new material gets posted on FTR each day, as we make new subjects available on the book they will also be posted at the book editing forum.

I wish everyone could review the book as it's being created, and I though about doing it on FTR, but for obvious reasons that's impractical. There may be new opportunities to join the review team as the book continues. I am paying attention to "lurkers" who never add anything to the process and when we hit the next phase of the book we may flush out inactive members and open it up to some new reviewers.

I am also considering making the book more available on a limited basis as it forms. I don't know. I'll have to see what interest there is and take other things into consideration.

Anyway, thanks for the interest. The book is coming along nicely 5% of the subjects have been written and edited so far. They all look GREAT! We will be making 2 subjects available on FTR and http://edudlive.com/forums/index.php next week.

Wow, hey all. I'm writing. I posted some stuff a few days ago. In the interest of my continued frankness, here's the scoop. August was a banner month playing. I had the 10k race and all. Spent every freaking penny buying a new house and moving in (my wife was back to work for about 2 weeks when we closed on the house). Then I immediately quit my job. POKER RULES I'M GOD!

To update: I put together a decent game in Jan, quit my job Feb 8, spent a couple months not working, went back to word and told my wife to quit her job (because she hated it) She spent a couple months not working. Then Aug 20th we move into our new house and Aug 30th or so I quit.

Then, all of a sudden, I couldn't win a plug nickle when I needed the money BAD. I stripmined my BR, borrowed money from Manner (that I still owe) and couldn't turn it around. Started scrambling for a job - no luck. Bills pile up and I don't have an extra synaps to devote to anything but feeling like a loser who made a terrible mistake. All of a sudden everyone who doubted me was right and 7 solid months of poker income was a anomoly.

At the same time my "fame" if that's what you want to call it hits a peak and I have people wanting me from every corner to do shit (none of it for money) and I say "yes" to everything, hoping to get some money for it. I publish a couple articles for $500 (still haven't gotten the check), and I'm thinking "how much do they pay to give blood" My BR is the size of my son's allowance. I lost interest in playing and stopped playing, got a dog and hid.

I started working again about 10 days ago. Good job, I love it. Commission sales - which i'm good at. But no real money for another 3-4 weeks. So, I'm in the "let's not get my car repossesed before I get my next check" mode at the moment. But, I'm starting to play a bit. Not trying to pay the bills just rebuild my bankroll. My confidence is shot but I'm following my own advice, so it'll work out. (I'm still a genius afterall lol)

So there's the update. I'm no bi-polar, manic-depressive, or anything - but we all have swings and I tend to live life like whatever is going on at the moment will last FOREVER good or bad. So I get full of myself when it's good and want to alternately deny reality and hide under the covers when it's bad.

Anyway, I'm writing some more and I appreciate the interest, concern, prodding and "what the fuck"'s. They are all appreciated.
