    Default Too agg?

    PokerStars - $0.25/$0.50 (10 max) - Holdem - 7 players

    SB: $13.80
    BB: $13.25
    UTG: $4.65
    UTG+1: $21.35
    Hero (MP): $10.20
    CO: $9.20
    BTN: $9.05

SB posts SB $0.10, BB posts BB $0.25

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.35) Hero has K J

fold, fold, Hero raises to $0.50, fold, fold, SB calls $0.40, fold

    Flop: ($1.25, 2 players) 7 T J
SB checks, Hero bets $0.25, SB raises to $0.50, Hero calls $0.25

    Turn: ($2.25, 2 players) 8
SB checks, Hero bets $0.50, SB calls $0.50

    River: ($3.25, 2 players) 8
SB bets $0.50, Hero calls $0.50

    Opponent is a rock

Question 1) Is my play throughout the hand too aggressive?
Question 2) Should I have called the river bet?

Feel free to critique all of it, thanks.

Ugh. What does a rock call out of the SB that he takes *that* line with?

KK or QQ right? Maybe AJ? I can't imagine him with A9 here or 99.

His play doesn't make sense, so the river call is fine as long as you make notes. I would have checked out of the turn though after being raised. You're obviously repping the 9, but that doesn't make sense with your PF and flop action.

If this is a set, villian misplayed the hell out of it.
The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than average. This bias is attributed to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their mistakes

95% of players are raising in the sb with KK or QQ. This is TT or maybe 77 and the turn is passive on the villain's part but I don't know about terribly misplayed.

To the OP, I fold KJo pre in MP with 7 players but it's not horrible. Need you to expand on rock as usually that's only a pre-flop descriptor. What's his post-flop play like? If he's passive post, yeah, your play is too aggressive. You can't run him over so it's just spew.

    Fold river.

Calling out of the small blind I put him on AK or AQ.

I bet the Turn because I thought it might be a scare card for him and he would fold, but that is where I think I was too aggressive. A check would have been better.

Raising from MP was a little aggressive also, but IMO ok.

Benny - You are spot on w/ his post play. He is neutral/passive post flop which I agree made my play too aggressive.

And great read Benny on TT or 77, I certainly didn't put him calling out of the SB with that.

SB bets $0.50, Hero calls $0.50

SB shows 7 7 (Full House, Sevens full of Eights)
Hero mucks K J (Two Pair, Jacks and Eights)
    SB wins $4.05

At game speed, I probably raise pf, b/c flop, check behind on the turn, and call the river.

But benny's got the correct line here. When they are scared of the 4-straight and wake up on the paired board, that means they boated up.

"Rock" doesn't say much. We need more description of his play.

I still 3bet this flop, though (I severely discount sets here because most passive players wait for the turn to c/r their sets). 1- it charges draws like AKcc. 2- it pays off when villain thinks I am semi-bluffing. 3- it gets more value from my bigger hands, provided I also play them fast.....which I do. 4- it helps better define our villain's hand.

If he caps, we can fold to a turn bet. (It's a rare villain that can cap a flop and follow up on a turn with air) I can bet the turn (on a non-A/non-club) and fold to a c/r. It is overplaying my hand a bit, but I feel the positives outweigh the negatives when I play cheaper streets this hard. I can also check back a turn card from a rock and pick off a busted flush on a river and/or minimize the damage when villain has me beat since a "rock" will all but chicken out when I toss the 3bet in on the flop w/o a monster hand.

Fold to the donk on the river. From a "rock," this bet has TP beat....he was just too big a puss to keep playing back at you until he either boated or the draw busted.

LHE is a game where your skill keeps you breakeven until you hit your rush of random BS.

Nothing beats flopping quads while dropping a duece!
