Here in So Cal limit cash is still alive to some degree at the B and M rooms. On any day you can find many $3/$6 and $4/$8 games and if you know where to look, you can find some bigger games as well.
Play is extremely fishy and pretty good money can be made. I've always found that comparing limit to NL is kinda like apples and oranges, they're both fruit but...
I don't think that one has a higher degree of skill either, they require higher amounts of different skills. If you don't have the balls to make a hero call or that huge bluff, you'll lose in NL, if you don't have the brains to calculate your pot equity and other considerations to the Nth degree, you'll probably lose money in limit.
They also require some of the same skills, just maybe applied a little differently. For one, I think everyone should learn limit since it gives you the best unclouded picture of poker fundamentals you will get. It's much harder for most to transition from NL to limit than it is the other way around.
