    Default 5PLO non-nut straight

Villain is 33/6 over a very small number of hands, so close to an unknown.

pre my hand is pretty meh, but I'm not gonna say no to a free look at a flop.

I flop the second nuts on the flop and decide to lead out for pretty much pot since there are so many people still in the hand that I'm sure to get called with flush draws, straight draws, sets, two pairs overpairs etc.

The turn pairs the board so I'm less excited about the 2pair/sets part of villain's range as it's likely just filled up, but he still has enough flush draws and probably even straight draws that call on a paired board, so I go ahead and bet again, a bit smaller this time.

The river brings in the flush, so now it's really hard to get excited about betting for value here as I really think the only worse I'm only getting called by is trips and perhaaaaps overpairs. So I check, he bets out half pot and I don't really know what to do.
I only need to be good like 25% of the time, but really the only bluffs I can see him having here are QJ or 87 type hands, and I think the rest of his betting range here has me destroyed. Seems like a fold.

river is a fold, flop and turn are more interesting. I would generally play the hand more passively and then consider bluffing clubs. It's very unlikely you will be happy with the board run out.

But I can't imagine you ever get called by a straight draw on the turn, if that's true I probably should not give advice for 5plo

I probably check-call flop too, we're never ever good on the river.

Okay, thanks guys. I dunno if he'd really call turn with a straight draw, I mean there are certainly droolers that would do, but I don't have anything to suggest this guy is one of them, so shouldn't assume it to be the case.

What's the reasoning behind check/calling the flop? I mean surely we can expect to have more than 50% equity against villain's calling range there? Just a reverse implied odds type situation, whereby we're building a pot now when we're ahead but we're unlikely to be ahead by showdown so I'm basically giving chips away?

5-way limped pot, drawy board...we're almost never winning a huge pot with this hand.

bluffing the nut flush is pretty hawt though.

in addition to what you said, you can't get full value out of your hand when it is good and have to choose between options like calling down or bluffing the ugly cards. And even if it comes brick brick you'll often end up looking at J8 or the same straight that was free rolling you.

this is to say that your bet otf might show a slight profit, but most of the action from there will be -EV for you.

Also, it does allow to try and bluff but I would rather not have the Ac here since it takes a lot of hands you might not mind calling out of their ranges.

This may be way too passive but I think if we have J8 with no redraw we check-call the flop as well given that there's 5-people seeing this flop. As many as 27 cards kill our hand, and we have 0 FE vs. KQJ/FDs or sets.

Cool, thanks a lot for that guys, it's really helpful. Looks like I really need to start thinking about how the cards still to come are gonna change things.
