    I personally would raise pre-flop. Maybe to about 2.5x the original bet. Just to protect your low flush against a 4th diamond falling

    Curious if not a fan of the general concept of protecting one's hand or not a fan of it in this particular hand. And why?

    It's often counter-productive to "protect your hand" against someone with a lot of equity in the pot. You also run the risk of over-playing your hand against the top of your opponent's range.

    A more productive way to think about these spots:

    What is your range of hands with the line your representing? Is your opponent aware enough for it to matter?
    What range of hands does your opponent have? What is he continuing with?
    What's going to cause him to put the most money in with the worst hands or get him off a better hand?

    ...or rather what bet sizing is going to make the most money?

    That's a lot more important than figuring out some mythical sum of money that makes it "incorrect" for a flush/straight/whatever draw to call.
