    Default PLO books....?

    Hey guys,

Just trying to learn PLO here and was wondering if there are any "staple" kind of books for someone trying to learn PLO? Doesn't have to be a beginner book necessarily.

I bought Pot-Limit Omaha Poker by Jeff Hwang and it arrived today and been reading that and it seems decent so far. Anyone have any thoughts on this book or any others?

    Thanks!

Hwang is the best, stick with it through the torturous straight draw section in the beginning.

Rueben is good, read it next. Also he's so English it's awesome.

then Slotboom. He starts off with some short stacking stuff which is eh but has some good stuff from there.

You can buy the Ciaffone book but imo Hwang says the same stuff but better.

I got the Cloutier book against my better judgment and it's just as dumb as his NLHE book. It helps to understand the nits who only bet the nuts but probably you are doing OK vs them.

The section in SS2 by berman is OK but if you don't already have it or have interest in the other games in there it isn't worth buying just for PLO, you can read it in like 45 minutes.

I just bought hwang online for like $13 CDN + shipping.. was pretty cheap.

    Do they deliver to Ireland?

And yah the straight draw section in Hwang's book just messes with my mind.. all the combos and outs.. and nut outs... holy

    thanks for the advice dr!

personally gained much more from slotboom's unconventional stuff than i did from the standard stuff.

I added this to the digest so I'll toss in a few more bits.

    Full titles

Pot-Limit Omaha Poker by Jeff Hwang

How Good is Your Pot-Limit Omaha? by Stewart Reuben

Secrets of Professional Pot-Limit Omaha by Rolf Slotboom

    Omaha Poker by Bob Ciaffone

Doyle Brunson's Super System 2: A Course in Power Poker by Doyle Brunson

Championship Omaha by Tom McEvoy and T.J. Cloutier (not recommended)

Hwang has nice sizes sections on LO8 and PLO8.

Ciaffone discuss LO8 and Limit Omaha high, as does the Cloutier book. Just like PLO, I think you get more out of the Hwang section for LO8. You'll probably never play Limit Omaha High in your life. There are currently 0 LO high games running on stars as I write this.

SS2 has a section on LO8 which is again OK but not worth buying the book just for that. But if you're the kind of person who would play LO8 and PLO I'd buy SS1 and SS2. Probably SS2 first. SS1 is a little dated, especially the stud lo section which was written before 8 or better was the standard.

Ray Zee's book is the only one I have read on LO8. It's excellent and as a b0nus you get Stud 8 as well.

those who said hwang's or slotboom's plo book is best probably haven't read Slowhabit's PLO book. a few at twoplustwo was fortunate to be selected for an advanced copy and were blown away.

I read Hwang's PLO book but heard he has some other more advanced PLO books. Are those any good?

Yes, the new Hwang book is awesome. You can tell everyone read his first one and was like "LOLNitaments" and he was offended. This one focuses a lot more on position & generally playing without the nuts. Floating is chapter one. It's a huge book with lots of HHs (maybe a few too many) and also lots of content. He has another one planned but it's not out yet.

haha sweet, ok cause I thought the same thing about the first book. Seemed geared towards PLO live games with lots of tight players and not really to an aggro 6max online game I thought. Especially with all the talk of folding the nuts if you don't have redraws etc etc.

Do you need to have read the first to get the most out of the second?

Actually I was thinking of buying the first half of Slowhabit's e-book ($47), as its specifically aimed at NLHE players transitioning to PLO. Have you read that, and is it any good?

The only problem is that I think it only deals with preflop, and to buy the second half on post-flop is another $327 - it would want to be good before I consider shelling out that sort of cash.

Have not read the Slowhabit book, I am not on the e book train.

you could read Hwang 2 without Hwang 1, but every new PLO player should read Hwang 1 so I don't recommend it.
