Started a thread in diff. section but was suggested I put it over here >

Thought it might be fun to take a shot at winining a freebie game we could play together.

I read most of the thread and don't understand what OFC is still. So it's a league of some sorts? Link?

Online Gaming Events | Poker, Casino, Blackjack Money Added Events

They do all sorts of money added events, mostly at non-US accepting sites though. You pre-register and select your "team" (forum). They do a freeroll on the Saturday, then a buyin/$ added event on the Sunday.

Points awarded for the top 30 I believe. Top 3 forums from both the freeroll and the buyin event get their own private $ added freeroll for all the players who represented their forum in the event. The won freerolls are absolutely worth playing since the fields end up being so small when it is just your forum participants playing in it.

Makes sense, I guess it is one of the last vestiges of my past nittiness. I open all sorts of crap 10-handed playing live cash but I always had an aversion to stealing with the so-called "dominated" hands UTG in mtts. Of course I haven't really grinded MTTs in years so it's natural that strategies have evolved.

Do you still open-fold small pairs in EP?

Of course I do! You've seen my Big Game episodes...

Being serious though, it depends a lot more for small pairs. I am more willing to fold them than I am suited cards (obv since they flop so much worse). It's 100% dependent on players behind and stack sizes. Auto folding 22 UTG would likely be incorrect, as would auto raising.

Gonna play Event 38 of WCOOP today. It's full ring, but it's PL preflop and NL postflop, just like the Big Game! See why I have to play it?

Hopefully it goes better than the first two WCOOP attempts. It'll probably be the last event I play.

It was like my 2nd hand at the table, so I am not sure why he is reverse floating me on this board. He's a HSMTT player, so perhaps I am just missing something, but I really doubt it.

KQs/QJs with a BD flush draw is a pretty standard float/bluff raise on the board, no?

The board texture isn't very good and he's OOP. So doesn't seem standard to me.

If he had some read on me, then I'd be a little more understanding.

On this board any card 9+ gives him a straight draw or top pair; he has 7 additional small cards that give him a backdoor flush draw; he can bluff diamonds. So he has a lot to work with.

I understand that a lot of turn cards are decent for him, but it's a lot tougher when he's OOP. And he has no reads. He doesn't know if hero cbets a lot, and he has no idea if hero double barrels.

What should his plan be if the turn comes diamond? What should his plan be if he turns a straight draw without a spade? If he turns a spade that doesn't also give him a straight draw, do you still like c/r?

Definitely tougher out of position and with no reads, it's pretty ambitious/slightly baddish. In general, I think floating KQ/QJ on T-high boards is still pretty standard against default villains although it is very likely that I just need to fold more flops. Hard to say what he should do on other cards, I think he can get fancy on overcards, diamonds and straight cards. Js is obviously the ultimate action turn and it's a dumb runout for you.

This is an interesting read, way beyond my skill level but interesting nonetheless. I *might* float the KQs, if I did I'm bluffing flushes, straights, maybe A since I can rep nfd, and obv love this turn. Folding would seem the standard for me though, I'm floating if I think I can take it down on the turn, which requires reads. If I'm holding JJ in this hand, well my mouse is gonna get broke. I hope donkbee is better at dealing with tilt than I am lol.

Don't forget that you're also OOP, which means you have to either donk bet or c/r if you're trying to take it down on the turn. c/r means investing a lot of chips.

I find the small pairs part interesting. When would you open and when not? With like a 40+ BB stack.

In EP, I would be reluctant to open them if there's competent players behind me that will flat a lot and resist folding post flop. There aren't a lot of great flops for small pairs.

    Sigh - Stars lagging again?

I haven't had chance to play poker this week. Played a £100 f/o in London and it was fun, went on really late but a good experience (came 10th of 40 at 3am after late regging a 7pm start at 9pm). Playing a £150 deepstack this weekend at my local casino. I don't enjoy live poker every time I play it but it's so soft and I'm starting to adapt much better I think, I do stuff I'd never do online which is a good sign I guess!

I could, yes. I need a better net connection and there are workarounds for some eu sites.. not stars or fulltilt but yea. I am just burned out on the game. I had an amazing 4k month starting at 5 mtts and 10stts in Holland and then went to austria and just boom / shattered any motivation to play online somehow :S But yea getting a fulltime job may as well dick around on lazy sunday in mtts and be semi +ev.

No idea, gonna wing it. Def trying to play poker full time, I've got some money and income so I can give it 6 months to a year and re-evaluate and not consider it time wasted.

Was thinking of moving to Belfast with Jono but looks like he's gonna spend some time in Malta then back to Canada, so Canada is looking cool. Other options are Germany with my ex-flatmate from uni (unless he ends up in Canada) or a random punters flat.

I should probably put more thought into it but current plan is graduate -> play poker and see how it goes haha

That's what I did :P I love how we get university degrees and then just sit at home in underwear to degen it up.

Go to Malta and then Canada! I will prob be in Malta in May and then coming back to Canada in August.

Hmm, Malta would be cool. I've got most of July planned to spend with a friend in the UK and the beginning of August, so that takes care of that.

TBH I'd be happy just getting a shithole of a flat with cheap rent, near a gym and a couple of other players who liked the pub, and seriously getting my head down. If I go to Canada it's going to feel like a mistake to try and grind 6 days a week which defeats the point of a grind haus
  31. #256
You're also young and without other responsibilities, so might be worth seeing other parts of the world while you can. That's why we're going to Malta, at least. You are so much younger than us, too, so if you start now, you can see the entire world before you settle down.

I agree Wanna save up some money though - I don't want to be broke straight out of uni and have to skip stuff I want to do like nights or meals out because I can't afford it. A year of grinding and doing part-time stuff as necessary should give me enough of a roll to stretch out hopefully!

Apart from the fact it fucks over your equity and makes fields harder

Re-entry looks like a good solution to getting bigger fields from less traffic without making the fields too tough.

Have they put late reg back to an hour from 2 hours? If they have then most regs won't need to re-enter as they don't tend to bust earlier, which is even better
  41. #266
I don't mean re-entry, I mean literally two seats on two tables of the same tourney - if both entries make the final table they merge your chips and pay 9th to one of your entries or something.

And no I haven't seen any 2 hour late regs

It's bad for your ROI, the bigger the field the less of the impact but it's still bad. Re-entry is much better
  43. #268
is it bad because of the FT chip merge, or is there another reason?
Congratulations, you've won your dick's weight in sweets! Decode the message in the above post to find out how to claim your tic-tac
  44. #269
Partly bad because of the FT chip merge - you can't win first place twice, only 1st and 9th at best, and the benefit of having more chips is way too small to make up for that. The other problem is that regs are far more likely to take max entries than recreational players, so the field becomes tougher as you're effectively playing against more regs and less fish.
  45. #270
Well I can see the first bit, but frankly having two entries just makes things hard for everyone else on both my tables

Will stay away from them going forward though, 1st & 9th sucks

Beer is also a great offer

Had a chat with my parents as I was home this weekend and basically decided to not decide anything til June and then see what the options are then. They don't really mind what I do/where I go but I keep making plans and changing them because of other people

sooo yeah, plan is no plan til June then think about maybe having a plan

Met him a couple years ago when he came out for BCPC, but I haven't really hung out with him. I've had a couple Skype calls with him while playing SnGs before and he has an awesome laugh

I'm confused about what you're asking regarding WPT :P

Have you always disliked it, or did you learn to dislike it after all the time you've spent playing it in Vegas since moving?

Man you guys are weird... for somebody who just plays online, live poker is like a minivacation.

Unless you're like me and come 9th-13th in every 1k+ event you play all year, then def aids

I'm always so excited to play live poker, then within 5 minutes of sitting next to the fat guy with BO, getting glared at by a reg, forgetting it's my turn to act and feeling generally hungover and shit I wish I was at home in my boxers grinding online

The latter, I usually had fun when I lived in Ohio and came to Vegas, although my WSOP trips were long and run-bady. I am sure will enjoy the change of pace if/when I can also play online regularly.

If we had the FT money, it would feel a lot more fun, I can't really play the schedule I want (deserve?) so I end up with less interest in what I'm playing. I have also been break even since being here.

Most important is that there are lots of times, like Pascal, that I just do not want to be around people. I do not like most of them. I am usually only playing Fri-Sun because the fields are not worth the drive other days, so I pretty much have to suck it up and go those days no matter what. If not, my volume goes from lol small to 2 tourneys a month. All this just makes me grumpy.

I can't really play cash, even if I wanted to play 2/5 or PLO i do not have the roll (FT again), and 1/2 is so raked and dull I always just want to go home. I tried limit O8 but I think once I was at a table that played 6 hands in an hour.

On the upside, I just played some legal regulated .5/1 and a $5 SNG here in the USA so how bad can life be.

I hear you. I like being alone - there are people "near" to me on Skype but I'm quite happy playing poker in my room all day and then having some pints at night with friend. I don't want to be around them all day, I want my privacy and space and to just get on with it. Blahhh
