In no way is this meant as a put down to j_fish because I think he is a great player, but you guys seriously still don't get the volume this guy is putting in.

My guess is that his ROI is actually somewhere between 25-50%. I think if he reduced the number of tables he played it would be between 60-80% but he still does so well with the number of tables that he does play that he would end up making less if he did reduce his number of tables.

Okay then how many MTT's do you play on one day johnny_fish?
And do you happen to know your ROI?

    chardrian:
25-50% seems pretty low if we take into account that it seems that he wins a big tournament every other day or so )
but of course 25% at these buy-ins would still be extremely good.
Where I am, I don't know, I'll never know, in the silence you don't know, you must go on, I can't go on, I'll go on.

I tried to be johnny_fish for 3 days last week, played 120 tourneys and made 3K, ROI was like 50%. Oh yeah, forgot to post in here, Stars 109, 5/486, $2700. I would guess j's volume is slightly less than what I did, but he plays higher stakes so he probably risks more than 2K/day.
  12. #1737

The 109R is such a ridiculous tournament, out of the 22 names on that list, I recognize 17 of them as being big winners, and 2 of the others are randoms who have played like 100 tourneys lifetime all of the 109R's or 215+ so they're as likely as not to be multi-accounters. Someone as good as Sauce probably does have an edge in the 109R (assuming he has a basic understanding of tourney poker) but most of the regs are just passing money around to each other and not beating the rake in the long run.

Hi This forum has helped me tremendously on my MTT game (especially aokrongly's post on patience & pacing), so a big thanks goes to ALL of you! I started with a $94 bankroll on 1/30/08, and I think I'll be playing MTT's/satellites exclusively (with a SNG here and there). Anyway, here are some of my recent winnings, all on Full Tilt:

    2/2920 ($.10 buyin + $.50 rebuy tourney) = $220
    1/180 ($2 + .25 SNG) = $97
    1/526 ($3 + $.30 turbo/KO tourney) = $329

I played in a $50 tourney (bad bankroll management) after my first win and lost quite a bit on some full ring games, so my bankroll is only $514 right now (with a $26 tourney token). I realized cash games are very -EV for me b/c I go on tilt easily, which is the reason why I'll be playing MTTs. Anyway, just thought I'd give a positive testimonial for the MTT strategies on this forum.

Total change of topic.... I am currently on break since I didn't take a J term class and so between now and the 27thish I will probably be playing a good 4+ hours a day of poker. I played a bunch of MTT's yesterday including the $1k tuesday special on stars and the $100 rebuy on there. I just have ran like total crap in MTT's the last year or so and they are really pissing me off. For the most part I am going to focus on cash games the next few months and lay of the MTT's.

almost 6 hours to the dot, 1 PM eastern US to 7 PM. we played HU for about 10 minutes, I had a ~7-1 chip lead and managed to suck out 55 vs QQ. if he had won that pot it would have been 700k him 500k me with 8/16k blinds so maybe it could have taken another 30 minutes or so max. We also went from 4 handed to HU really quick.
