Default All in preflop with AA vs 72 off

I was just in a free roll on interpoker I was dealt AA in late positon there was a guy all in before it got to me so naturally I called he had 72 and hit 2 pair. I was just astonished

Well actually in heads up, 72o is actually a small advantage over AA. especially if he was first to act.

whatever you're smoking, I want some of it. 8-)

I think what you mean to say is that 72o is better than say 32o, 42o, 52o and 62o in heads up (obviously in 10-handed play 27o is statistically the worst)

In case there is any doubt, go run the numbers; heck, you dont even have to go that far :P I mean, just think about it. What does 72 need to do to beat AA? Well, first consider that the most likely scenario for any hand is that NO board cards will match your pocket cards. So, even A as a high card beats 72o. Second, even if either of those cards hit, they're still a long way from beating AA. With 72o *both* cards have to hit, or one of the two has to hit more than once. Now consider, say, a board of 772. An A can still come up and steal the hand completely.

Simply put, AA is the best two-card hand no matter what the circumstances.

especially if he was first to act.
I won't even ask why you think this is an advantage.

btw, sorry aces86 but man thats one for the tales of poker section go post the hand history. I'd love to see it

yeah but 72 can beat AA cause all it needs is one 2 and one 7.

and if you get a 772 flop what are the chances of another ace coming?

maybe someone else folded aces too preflop. that means there isnt even another ace which means the AA cant possibly beat the 72? Right?

AA has never been folded preflop in the history of texas holdem by anyone in their right mind

And even if someone else did fold AA (let's pretend the person was highly superstitious and every time he was dealt an ace of clubs AND an ace of diamonds, he would fold it because when in the past he was dealt that exact combination of suited aces he had them cracked by someone else's pocket pair of 3's), I'd still choose the other two AA over 72. Even at that point they'd still be the odds-on favourite to win the hand.

All you have to realize is that in the overwhelming majority of cases, neither hand will improve. There's a reason why they say that 72 offsuit is the worst starting hand in holdem!

No one plays aces. Your best bet is to toss that away even on SB.

I once folded AA, 3 players all in preflop on one hand on the bubble on what had been a really SnG, if I folded it I was guaranteed to be ITM, if I called then my AA had to hold up in a 4 way pot.

Yes that's right, I folded AA preflop once before.

You'd be surprised, one guy who was all in with JJ hit his J, lol the fold actually made me money.

I wish he was kidding too, but he was serious!! Notice the lack of /sarc's and :Ps !

I really do think he is serious, his logic is humerous though.

and 3 players ahead of you, 1 more to go to make it to the bubble... I dont know, I would have called I think. I just couldnt turn down AA.

Wowsers...that's a thinkier move than I would have been capable of. I'd have been all over the call button like a Sri Lankan on a box of medical supplies.

Oh shit, I did not just go there.

His fold makes perfect sense in that situation.

I agree. That's the ONLY time to fold AA is when you just have to sit back to ensure you make the money. Looking at it statistically like we do..

If you fold and let the hand play out you have a 100% chance to make the money. Those are pretty darn good odds.
  23. #23
hmm. 30% roi by folding vs tripleing up, and getting a chance to win. Winning is is at least in the 5000% to 10000% roi range for a mtt. Heck, if you win that hand, you should be able to make it to the next level of money just by posting and folding after that. You're a *huge* favorite pre-flop. Get them chips in when it matters.

HAHA I cant believe this but last night on an nl100 I Had AA 3 limpers in front of me I make it 12 bucks to go the guy who limped under the gun raised all in for about an other 75 I of course was overjoyed and was hoping he had KK. The cards came out on the flop 3 hearts and I had the ace of hearts...then no more hearts came and I expected the pot to come my way...but no he showed 56 of hearts. Gotta love it.

His move wasn't bad at all. If he gave you any credit as a player you would need AA or KK to call his reraise. AK or QQ thinks it's a tricky UTG limp with AA.

I wouldn't go chasing that fish any time soon.

Im not saying it wasnt a good play by him I would of layed AK there and maybe even QQ so ya they only hand I was gonna call him with was AA or KK....Im just saying it sucked to get beat by that all in preflop.

You guys are going to find this amusing. I just finished reading the new posts in this thread today and decided to play a SnG. Late in the tourney, I was on the big blind; 3 players left including myself. I hold 27o. Button calls, SB folds and I check.

Flop comes up all blanks, I check, Button checks.

Turn is a deuce. I bet the minimum, button calls.

River is a deuce. I again bet, and button calls.

    Button shows AA!

    How's that for irony.

Stupid play by the player on the button indeed, I mean, come on, I would have folded to a min raise any step of the way, especially on the turn.

I'll post the history when I get it.

Oh yeah, needless to say, I won the tourney.

I'm with whileone on this one. You don't fold the best hand. To win tourneys you've got to take chances, and if you're not willing to take a chance on AA, then what will you take a chance on?

You'd be surprised, one guy who was all in with JJ hit his J, lol the fold actually made me money.
So if another guy had 27o and flopped a full house would that justify folding your aces preflop?

whileone has made a mistake here IMO, b/c dwarf was refering to an SNG not an MTT in an MTT you have to call to put yourself in a better position, but in an SNG with the small stacks and big blionds getting ITM is very important, you can then build a stack buy stealing being aggresive etc

Bleh, for some reason I was also thinking MTT even though his first post clearly says SnG.. Anyhow..

If I were in his shoes I still wouldn't have folded, and I indeed wouldn't have won the SnG if I had done so, but still, if that exact situation had occured say 100 times, and every time you called the All-ins with AA, you would have won the lion's share of them.

I think in the long run you would have made more money calling with AAs rather than folding and being guaranteed ITM, since winning that hand probably gives you a 70-90% chance of winning first place.

Funnily enough tho it did help me just a couple of days ago in a $10 SnG.

Re-raised all in with 64s (fairly weak table) and got called down by a KJo (no idea what this guy was thinking) only to hit my 4 on the turn to take chip lead.

A couple of hands later i look down at 27o in roughly CO.
3 limps and a small raise to me so i push in another 800. Gets around to the last limper before the raise who calls down to leave himself with about 700 chips.

Board comes 77X, he pushes I call.

He shows 88. Not a happy chappy.
Anyway, the whole table goes on tilt and i LAG my way to victory.

    Go 27o lol
