Yeah, I consider unsuited connectors to be junk most of the time at any position. If I do play them, they need to be suited. You give up a lot by not having the flush draw to back you up. Also, if you're anywhere from 56s - 9Ts, and only flop 1 pair with no draw, you're probably not going to win with what you have. Either by your pair being beat by the river, or you're outkicked. I'd call one small bet on the flop, and fold the turn without improving to 2 pair, trips, or a flush/str8 draw. But the danger of connectors is that if you catch 2 pair, you're almost always vulnerable to the straight, but it's tough to not call down with it. Not a good spot.
