    Default oven chip organisation

    OK, bit random, but........

when cooking oven chips(fries), does anyone else organise the chips so there is one layer rather than piling them up, thus ensuring they cook more evenly?

I do, my mrs doesn't and thinks I'm weird. I hate it when I see her piling them up, will sometimes even wade in there and organise them. Wondering if anyone else shares my freakiness/good sense.

I let the chips fall where they may.

I also use the one layer technique.

    You're right, she's wrong.

    Unless she prefers soggy chips.

Moot point. Deep-fry your chips if you have any self-respect.

Then add cheese curds and gravy, amirite Alexos?

Helllll no. Single layer, in the oven, call them french fries.

you mention you have a wife..

OK but it all seriousness, single layer it. I can't see any reason why you would cook them without doing so.

    No hindsight for the blind.
Single layer, stir them around 3-ish times mid-cooking.

Over here, fries are the skinny ones and chips are the thicker ones. Although they're all chips.

Single layer, stir them up when they get near being done, maximum crispness

Also cook them near the bottom of the oven for like 15, then blast them at top shelf under the grill for 3 for extra crispness

Having seen m2m's reply, that sounds like a good idea.

Also, single layer is the only way to go obv.

you taught her to read? In the hopes that she will learn by reading? Sure she might learn to do her marital duties better by looking at this thread, but how long do you think it will take before she stumbles across a feminist pamphlet? Dispose of this one with haste, and next time use your hand to educate her on whatever matter you see fit. Closed handed if you have to repeat yourself.

p.s. Deep fried things should be deep fried, not baked. There are plenty of things to do with a potato that do not require deep frying. And if youre using prepackaged store bought fries that are meant for the oven.. well those things are just gross. Srs failure going on in this thread.
You-- yes, you-- you're a cunt.

    in a rut

cut potatoes into wedges, toss with a little bit of olive oil and some rosemary, spread on baking sheet, sprinkling on some more rosemary if necessary to make sure each wedge is coated, bake at 375-425 until golden....delicious...the rosemary adds a beautiful flavour.

Idk what you mean by organizing them exactly. Are you covering and aligning them like a battalion of North Koreans? or are you just using your hand to swish them around until they're one layer? I do the latter obv. Does she do the same pile 'em up technique with Pizza Rolls, etc? If so, gtfo obv.

Well we do call them fries here. Well, "frites" if you're french. But I was just humouring our brit buddy, calling em chips.

As for this multi-vs-single layer business. Obv single layer is preferable. Fries stuck underneath won't be cooked as evenly, obvious fail.

The key however is cheese curds and gravy; if you haven't tried this yet you might as well still be a virgin imo

I can't have any chip without 1 whole side touching the baking tray. Its wrong I tell you. She is happy with like half of the chips lying on top of eachother, so same amount of chips, just inefficiently laid out, criss-crossing and all sorts.
