This was a good pickup for us, not so much because of Frye himself, but it allows us to use Seneca Wallace as a WR now that DJ Hackett is out for a while.
I was a little disappointed that we traded Bryce Fisher to make room for him, but that was more because he was a good guy, easy to root for, than because he was a great player.
I thought it was very strange though to go from #1 guy, to being benched 20 mins into week 1, then traded for almost nothing...I wonder if he pissed someone off somehow.
He's a good, hardworking guy. Drafted early in the 3rd round a few years ago.. he just doesn't have the skill-set to be an NFL starting QB though (IMO). Too weak of an arm and he looked like a deer in headlights against Pitt, and that's an understatement.
I went into the season thinking that whoever was the starter, Frye or Anderson, would probably be the worst starting QB in the league, or at least very close. I think they are both serviceable backups and both have in-game regular season experience. Frye has more of that (and more teams were probably interested in him), but Anderson has the bigger arm and more upside.
basic summary: Frye will pick up the offense quicker than most and be an OK backup. It'll let Holmgren use all sorts of goofy plays with Wallace if that's what he chooses to do.
