Default Major Blizzard To Hit Northeast US

Anybody else in the areas that are to be hit hardest by this? I live about an hour north of NYC itself and I am under a Blizzard Warning for 18-36 inches of snow with 30-50 mph winds for a period of 36 hours.

I've been through some of the terrible blizzards and winters of the early and mid 90's but I honestly think this looks like it could be the worst storm in the history of Boston. Some of those suburbs are going to see 40"+ with massive drifts.

This is by no means the typical hyped snowstorm this time. This is a huge hit.

Watches and warnings for the United States can be seen here:

Awesome, hopefully that'll work its way down the jet stream and give us a dumping in time for my birthday.

Just make sure you've got plenty of food, water, blankets, candles, and weed.

    Haha...

About 4 years ago I got stuck in a blizzard without weed because the storm wasn't supposed to be anywhere near as bad as it was. I wound up in the house without electricity for 3+ days with no weed. It was...definitely not fun.

At this point I'm kind of hoping it just blows out to sea. I'd much rather spend the night on here playing and studying poker than I would fumbling around with candles in the middle ages.

I'm in NYC too! Currently in SoHo right now but heading home early to Astoria to enjoy the snow from the warm side of my window... Still looks manageable for a commute atm but not sure when it's going to get worse.

That sounds like a lot of work. Snow gets disgusting quickly up here. Whenever people say they enjoy snow, they're thinking of beautiful white snow covering all of the things. In NYC, we have black sludge snow.

This storm is turning out to be fluff outside of New England. I live in the Hudson Valley of NY State and there's a travel ban in place (as there is in several states) and I've been back and forth between my girlfriend's house on the other side of town all night. Police aren't enforcing the ban at all. It's light snow and the roads are a bit slick. The storm wound up riding the jet stream too far out to sea and south and west of the New England Thruway, this is just a typical snowy morning in January.

Hopefully this means my power will stay on throughout the entirety of the event so I can grind a few thousand hands during this.

also, basically nothing happened in NYC other than a lot of people having time off for no reason.

I wonder what the future will bring. Seems like us fucking up the environment is hitting the US first. But as with everything, it needs a real catastrophy before itll get the proper funding and attention to deal with it.

The empirical evidence also needs to be emphatic. As it is now, we can't lay bad weather at the feet of CO2 increases. For example, I think we would have to determine a significant enough increase in energy along the equator and Tropic of Cancer to conclude that hurricanes are increasing because of global warming.

This winter wound up blowing dogs where I live. I'm about 75 miles north of NYC currently and of course every major storm was a New England special that clobbered Boston and interior N.E. while my area got grazed with nothing more than the outer bands of a coastal.

It did snow quite a bit this year...just never the 2-3+ foot storm that I would happily take and run onto spring with every winter. At this point, after this long, cold, depressing winter I am eagerly looking forward to spring and warmer temps. Still, this week coming I'm stuck int he 30's during the day and teens at night I can't wait for it to be over.
