sc2 brken? just me?
Today I learned that fully upgraded ultralisks fail against stimed and shielded medivac marines with no other upgrades. Good to know
Yeah, ultras are supposed to be anti-ARMOR, not anti-light, like you'd think.
If you're dealing with mass marine, banelings are FAAAAR more effective.
I'm out of commission due to fail university internet. Am very sad :(
On a different note, ultralisk rushing with nydus worms is fun
I like to proxy hatchery in their base. That way I can steal their minerals, build spine crawlers, and spawn units directly into their base.
Why don't you just play protoss then? You won't have the telltale creep. If they find you, they only blow up your pylon instead of your hatch. You can spawn more units FASTER... one probe can make MULTIPLE cannons. Every advantage for proxy anything is protoss based, certainly not zerg based. :)
If you like doing that, protoss is def the race for you.
ultras get a huge damage boost vs armored, and aren't meant to be the only unit in your composition anyway (upgraded zerglings tend to go pretty well, since they have insane DPS and share the melee/carapace upgrades).
but in your specific example, your 6 armor, 500 hp war cows will do just fine vs 6 damage marines
I'm playing mostly zerg these days (for 1v1/2v2) and I find the ling/baneling/muta combo to be pretty savage especially against Protoss. Against Terran roach/hydra/infestor seems to work pretty well.
I think you are wrong ensignlee. Spawing Pool and Hatchery is 400 minerals and can produce as many units as you have larvae. With a Queen it can be very high amounts. Compared to a Pylon and two Gateways which is also 400 minerals. As you can see the Hatchery is able to produce more units then the Gateway Pylon combination. Also you do not need to make additional proxy unit producers. Unlike with a hatchery. You are also able to steal their minerals.
The gateways would be in my base... All I need is a pylon in your base (or a warp prism) to warp units into yours once I have warpgate up. So...100 minerals, sinec the only thing I risk is the pylon. And the build time is WAAAAAY shorter than hatchery, build queen, inject larvae, create troops / spinecrawlers.
Yeah. I was defintely joking. I'm almost 2v2 diamond.
lets have a king of FTR sc2 battle royale
K let's do it.
I'll get owned as I haven't been playing at all, but I'm down.
Ill do it. Maybe pair the good players with a shitty player like myself?
I just discovered how awesome PDD is in TvT
woot, I'm in!
btw I got mass thor'ed yesterday so I thought speedlots and immortals should be a decent counter, but I still got decimated. Anyone got a better idea? What about templars for feedback?
read patch notes imo
- Thor
- Energy bar removed.
- 250mm Strike Cannons is now cooldown-based on a 50-second cooldown. Ability starts with cooldown available (useable immediately after upgrade is researched).
I honestly think thors may be OP now. Mass thor vs zerg is almost as good, you just need helions or shielded rines to deal with mass ling. In TvP and TvZ I used to always go 1-1-1 opener, but now I'm going 1-2.
Yeah I never ever used to see thors, now like 25% of the games (half the time they are terran, half the time they go thors) you see them, en mass. Their AA range/splash damage is pretty ridiculous, I had some absolutely destroy my huge protoss air fleet :(
I prefer zerg and mutas die fast to them as well, unless you can pull off a perfect magic box...
ya, their range is stupid good. A few of them tossed into TvT can be quite annoying too as they repel your vikings when they are spotting for siege tanks.
I think as toss you need to mass zealots with legs and get them out in the open so you can get a good surround. As for zerg, I think the magic box is terribad, thor AA does splash damage, so magic box gets raped hard. I think you have to just go mass crackling with infestors for mind control? Idk....
But then again toss had this same issue a while back where once they hit critical mass and teched up to high temp/colossus there was no stopping them as T. So idk... dont let them mass thors? heh..
Yeah, in 1v1 they wont get mass thor, but I play a lot of 3v3/4v4 matches and it comes up way too often :(
Thors rape mutas if they just move/attack command. The whole point of magic box is that they keep their spread apart formation, so it greatly reduces that splash damage.
YouTube - Zerg Answer to Terran Mech - The Magic Box
I agree, mass thors seems unstoppable. I quit playing 1v1s and really just play 2v2 and 3v3 and they definitely can rape a large army. You really do need to stop them before they can mass. I just switched to protoss and ive found zealots can work really well but only when you can get the surround.
I think itd be more fun to be team based. lukie and ensign would destroy me and boost ldo.
Lukie would just own everyone. He's in top diamond league. There are no outs in this game like poker. :D
I'm out of practice lol, Lukie would pwn. ^^
ive had the most fun just doing cheesy 2v2 and 3v3 tactics. more lawls than playing so serious. I just get frustrated when i try haha.
I made a really bad name choice for 3v3 and 4v4. It tilts people so much they just immediately all-in attack me first almost every game.
I'm done trying to convince my teammates to do fun builds. One guy always goes straight 8-gate off one base and then pushes zealots and stakers for the entire game, and constantly gives me shit for not having an army after two minutes. It's really tilting. 1v1 is a lot more fun atm.
sup virgins?
woot! you can change your name now!
Also I'm on a super hot streak since I learned to properly pad my bankroll and fold when it's getting to hot.
Also I'm just going to throw this out there.. I haven't followed SC2 at all lately, but apparently between zerg strategy evolving and blizzard overswinging the nerf stick, apparently zerg is easily the best race now.
Ya but whos actually going to play this after midnight tonight...
im down for a tournament if that is still going to happen?

How are we not talking about this?!?!?!?!?!

Supposedly husky and hd got in a fight(lol) and now they are not frands. E-gaming drama aside, I think I prefer husky's commentaries, but I prefer TvT, TvZ, and TvP so when he doesn't have new ones I'll check HD's channel. Haven't watched any Psy ones yet, might have to do that.
Oh and the banelings song was awesome.
was in the comments section on one (both?) of their youtube pages.

Get da banelings
I'm a day9 fanboy for what it's worth...
I can't be bothered to open a teamliquid account, so I'll just bug you guys again: in 3v3 we always seem to get smoked by TTT with MM or mass marines at the first push. We're PPR, and I'm pretty positive that our plan for next time is probably good: Get lots of sentries and zealots (charge asap) at the start and then get collossi / high templars when it seems safe.
Fast templars aren't good cos we get killed before psy storm fisnishes researching. collossi are a bit faster but more of the same.
I've never had trouble with MM/whatever in 1v1 fwiw... but with a combined force in 3v3 it's pretty devastating.
You strategy seems sound, assuming you can get to charge.
I second the lol comment. I saw this comment on an HD video today though for anyone who cares:
"ok so i had to go down like 26 pages to find out what was up... HD is angry that he is not in the Banelings video, with husky and the game station. I guess I would be a little pissed too, if I didn't get to dance around with 5 attractive women and sing about banelings."
lol, if thats true, HD is a little whinny bitch.
My 1v1 account had been sitting at something like 34-28 300pt diamond for a long time already (since the first week the game came out or so), and I always only played terran but in the weekend I decided to go play some protoss. But on sunday there was something very weird going on, I kept getting dropped from games (without losing internet connection) but I just kept playing because I wanted to try my BOs etc. Finally I had lost so much it actually dropped me to platinum league!
The days after the dropping stopped and I could play normally, and finally on tuesday I got promoted back into diamond at 1500pt.. lol.
Protoss is quite fun to play I have to say. My strategies:
PvP: 4gate (the match-up I lost the most)
PvZ: 4gate
PvT: 3gate+stargate VR rush
I think I made colossi in one game, and never a single immortal or HT so far..
That sounds like a bad strategy tbh, vs so much ranged and you teching. In my experience these team games are mostly about fast attacks and rushing. Since you have 2 protoss, I'd ask your third guy to go zerg, tell him to go fast speedlings (for early map control), put a pylon close to the terran main, fly an overlord over the pylon to get vision and while they're walling off their ramp, just warp zealots straight onto their platform. You can kill 2 of them very quickly that way. This is almost unstoppable I think unless they totally outplay you.
Yeah, 4v4s are so totally different. I have a group of friends where it's basically "which guys do we want to gang bang first and second early on?". We used to multi 7 pool but now that players defend that easily, we've gone to multi 7 roach rushes which leaves us with a better econ afterwards.
I've been playing a TON of this custom game called Star Battle. It's pretty awesome, by far the best RTS/+RPG style custom game out there. Give it a shot. It's 6v6 capitol ships, upgrades/abilities and such. Quite well balanced actually.
If you want some pointers in it or want to play it (or even some real SC2) with me, my nick is KoRnholio / 759.
The thang with that is that it requires very good timing... plus pushing early AND building a cybernetics don't go together well. You loose 75(assimilator)+150(cybernetics)+50/50 research + energy for chrono boost. At the time you could have 8 zealots you can warp in 4. Plus whatever you loose by not boosting the warpgates early... so you need more buildings eariler.
We push early almost every game, but that's with 2-gate, and then going cybernetics/gas after the first attack. Has never worked against TTT unless they're teching. I can't imagine how zealots alone can be good against terran anyway unless they don't micro at all. Even if their ramp is open the others can reinforce from behind so we need to forcefield the ramp - which only works on half of the 3v3 maps cos of multiple entrance/ huge ramps.
I'm off to play some 3v3 now... hopefully we'll get a TTT team.
It's an almost unbeatable strat in 2v2 because of how fast it hits. I figure it can work in 3v3 also. And reinforcements get mauled by speedlings when they leave their base. Zealots rape workers, those are your primary targets and if you have enough then you can do a number on marines and marauders also.
If you think early zealots are bad vs terran, watch the first game of GSL 3 semi-finals, MC (toss) vs Jinro (terran). MC sent a few zealots from one gateway (not proxied, inside his base) to Jinro's base, which was supposed to be a little harass while he teched up, but it actually killed him. I do this now standard vs terran too (if they don't wall off) and it's killer.
Yeah I need to play some 3v3 too. I have diamond in 1v1 and 2v2 and only plat in 3v3.Quote:
I'm off to play some 3v3 now... hopefully we'll get a TTT team.
Anyone from euro who is decent wanna make a 3v3 team?
We had one game vs TTT on biolab where we got raped last time. Unfortunately they were terrible and we would have won with whatever.
I don't remember map names, but there are a couple like bioloab where I don't see how you're not getting raped with any kind of early push against TTT/MM just cos their reinforcement path is so short and they can surround us.
tbh I don't see how the warp in thing can work in 3v3 unless you can keep them from seeing the pylon. Once they see it the other two are coming to surround and then it really doesn't matter what we do.
Why would they see them? It's in the fog of war. They won't even see the zealots warping in unless they put buildings all over their main to get vision. But anyway, the early speedlings are for the map control to kill everything that moves out. It's all about timing ofcourse, at the time this happens, terran won't have too many units yet. (around the 6 min mark or so)
EDIT: To show the power of zealots running wild in a (terran) base..
Here's a HQ vod of the MC vs Jinro game: (top terran, so he isn't lacking in micro)

And today's finals of GSL 3, MC vs Rain game 4: (proxy gateway which was instantly detected by the terran)

could you guys tell me some top players to watch 'battle reports' of? (for entertainment more than strats) thanks in advance
idra always gets alot of coverage and is hilarious.
also since there is so much interest generated we really ought to get a tournament going. of the epople that sign up randomly assign partners and get like a 8 team tourney or something.
Are most of you guys US? I'm euro and we're on different servers.
If you just want entertainment, may as well go to youtube and search for huskystarcraft. He's a shoutcaster, so he casts most of the 'big' games and he castst hem entertainingly.
Or, you can watch day9 at day9tv on blip.tv. He's also very entertaining, but he takes a little bit more of an analytical approach and less of a "ZOMG BANELINGS" approach.
I tried the build from the videos vs terran in 1v1 and it's so obnoxious. The first one scouted it when I built the pilon and he couldn't hold it off. The terran would need incredibly good micro to kite the zealots and keep them from killing scv's. I'll stop doing it cos it's kind of boring, but maybe next time the opponent is favored I'll give it a try. I'll try it in 3v3 today.
wait; what videos?
Yes it's damn hard to counter. You need to surround the zealot with SCVs, press 's' (stop) to screw with the AI, the zealot will stop attacking the SCVs and try to hit the marine, and when he manually targets, pull back the SCV that is being hit (a zealot needs 3 hits to kill a worker). But it's damn hard. As you can see even this top terran couldn't do it, and they weren't playing for scrubs either. This was the finals and first place in GSL is $85k, second place $27k.
watching day9 on blip.tv ... hes def the best caster I've watched so far, but jesus christ, the commercials.. I had a best buy commercial interrupt my watching mid video!
adblock addon blocks youtube ads. idk about blip.tv, but the casts all end up on youtube anyway.
choose slow download on the bottom right, fill in the bot protection thingy, wait for 25 seconds, click download.
If you're having trouble opening them... any not retarded video player will do as it's only a container format.
vlc will do: VideoLAN - VLC: Free streaming and multimedia solutions for all OS!

I'm still reading but it looks like it's a LIVE 32 player SCII tournament in London with a $5k PP. Might only be open to European players, I read something about NA/Asia player accounts not being elligible.
If there's and SCII players in/near London who would be interested in playing this if I am unable to, shoot me a pm and we may be able to work something out. I am still gathering up the details on this myself though, but it looks like I may not be able to attend.
I'm reporting back that proxy gateways are a really good way to deal with MM timing pushes - as they will be fighting your cheese when they want to push, and is not that hard to transition out of.
Did not work in 3v3 tho. Worked somewhat in 2v2 but isn't really effective on most 3v3 maps - plus they can just team up and take it down before you do any damage.
Cheese is probably still the right response cos I can't think of an effective way to deal with a marine or MM death ball at the 7-10 min. mark.
Hey guys I'm trying to work out a hotkey setup for protoss and wus wondering what you guys use - in case there are any toss players here.
I have all my nexi on 1 cos 1e is kind of conveniant and 1a is not. I have my warpgates on 2 until research is finished. Then I either put the robo on 2 if I go collosi or on 8 if I go immortals or the stargate - that's the part that I'm not looking to change. But until now I just put my whole army on 3 except for air units.
The real question is how I group units together. I've tried zealot/sentry on 3, air on 4 - I'm so used to 4g with phoenix that I can't imagine changing that. 5 for stalkers cos it drives me nuts not having them in their own group and 5b works fine. and 6 either templar or collossi cos I keep loosing my templars somewhere on the map and not having them at the battle when I need them.
That's an aweful lot of groups. I've seen some high level replays where they only have two groups or NO group for their army (wtf TLO). I wonder how that works.
I usually roll with nexus on 0
zealots / immortals on 1 (because they move about the same speed and I usually want them in the front. Ranged units on 2. 3 is my wildcard - I'll use them for anything from spellcasters to my colossi to my air units.
4 for my production facilities (robo bays, and prob stargates if I ever made them). 5 for my forges for upgrades.
Can you go 0c without looking at your keyboard? I've tried it a bunch of times right now. I don't think I could manage that without a a lot of practice.
So you keep the sentries in their own group or do you group them in with the stalkers and tab?
I did some practice with sentries and templar and going 3ffff 6ttt is pretty neat compared to tabbing around as I used to.
Well remember, you can go 0 ccccc to do 5 chronoboosts in case you lag for a little while, but ya...doesn't seem to be a prob for me. Sorry. :/
As far as sentries, I tried keeping them in group 2, but I keep forgetting to press the damn tab button, so if Fs everything up for me. I usually have them in 3, though I'm contemplating putting them in 1, since they're as slow as my zealots / immortals, and it's not like my zealots or immortals have spells to cast. Plus, I always find that with my sentries near the back of my army, I don't force field as well as I'd like to, resulting sometimes in my FFs working AGAINST me (I usually skew to zealots more than most people).
That was my thought. I really want them in the front for the forcefields... but then whenever I don't need forcefields I put them in the back :(
I have the same problem with tabbing. If I have stalkers and sentries I stop using the sentries unless I really really need them, and if I put templars in there the same thing happens to blink.
After switching the setup I had 8 losses in a row :)
Now I'm trying builds that don't require many different units - like 4gate all-blink-stalker push and hope to win before I need another hotkey :D

lolololol
After a month away from the game I'm coming back and trying to learn terran. I'm competent with zerg and toss, was upper platinum before my long hiatus (months of custom games then a month of nothing at all).
What kind of builds should I be doing against each race? I've been practicing a bit of 2 rax/fast expand (with a little bunker rush) against zerg and 3 rax against toss with moderate success. My main problem so far is not getting enough production buildings, or the right ones, at 2 and 3 bases.
MMM is fucking deadly against like 75% of tosses. We just won't have colossi or templar up in time.
Against zerg...uh, I dunno. I don't play that matchup lol
Also, if your multitasking can handle it, drops with medivacs are Fing deadly.
Drop one place, kill some probes. Drop another palce, kill some more probes, all the while losing NOTHING because you keep running away when my army gets there ARGH!
I do enjoy doing drops, though I probably shouldn't as my problems with Terran are most definitely macro-related, and dropping just makes my macro slip even more.
For me at least, spending money as zerg is easy as long as I remember to inject often- usually not a problem. As Toss it's easy too, I look at my money and go "oh, must be time to warp in 8+ gateway units". The type of units depends on how much of each resource I have. It's not the best system but it works decently well.
Then I get to Terran and at 15-20 mins in I am screwed from a) Not making enough buildings b) Not constantly producing from my buildings and/or c) queuing up units like mad gets my money low/to zero but it's way inefficient as I have to go back and unqueue units to be able to build more buildings :(
I'm not upper diamond, but fwiw: if I win against terran with toss it's because of macro every time the game goes past 10 min.
def. check out some fast expo builds with bunkers and tanks.
And until you have the timing down to put new units in production at the right times there's no shame in building an extra production building until you have it down. def. better than queuing up.
