I need other people's help that have already experienced this.
here is the problem. THE GIRLFRIEND. she is fed up with me playing, talking and thinking poker all the time. I need a new stategy to overcome this and balance the two. (letting her go is not an option here, sorry loll )
any suggestions for me from people that have had this kind of problem or do I have a problem lol

You need to sit her down and ask or tell her that your not going to give up poker. When you have designated time to be with her dont play poker dont talk about it. Only time I ever talk about poker is when I win.
Do you live with her? If so dude I am sorry. I would only play when she is not there.

I also have a girlfriend of 2 years....My suggestion would be to stop playing poker because your not gonna change here mind.... Well first let me ask are you even winning at poker? If your losing than just stop.
Make more money playing poker. You do that and she won't care.
If you're not making enough, you're screwed, bro. You're either going to have to scale it back or she's going to be on your ass all of the time. Since finding a new girl isn't an option, I'd say that you need to talk to her about it. You could set up rules for when and how much you play. I think that is total B.S., but that may be something you've gotta do.
My GF and I live together and she doesn't mind me playing poker at all. It helps that I win more than I lose. Even if I lost money all the time, I still think she'd still be for me playing because it's something that I truly love. What's cool now is that she's actually getting into it, on some small level, just because I'm into it. So basically, my girlfriend is cool like that, sorry that your's isn't.
One other thing. My girlfriend watches all of those horrible home and beauty makeover shows (you know the ones I'm talking about, Trading Spaces, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, etc, etc). I give her some flack about those, but she LOVES those shows so I let her watch them. While she's doing that, I'm usually online playing poker. She can't complain to me about poker if she's watching that crap on TV, and she knows this.

My fiance is the same way as Ultimate's. Unfortunately when she watches those shows she gets I ideas and I lose my weekends. LOL
My brother and I play all time so she started getting into it. She even wanted to start having a weekly game at our house. Now she starting to use the terminology and talking odds and percentages. We even watch "Tilt" together.
SO I guess my advice would be to talk to her and tell how much you like it, and maybe she would get into it to, although, that make make the problem worse. LOL

Everyone has the same problem, dude. Whether its poker or sports or whatever.
Now I'm special case. I have a radically obsessive personality. I completely lack the abiltiy to do anything half-assed. Which is to say when I decided I liked Hold 'Em, I went straight to the bookstore. I started tracking down sites like this one. Playing small limits probably 250+ hands per day (not multi-tabling, so several hours/day). And was taking DETAILED notes on my common opponents. I obsess about crap I enjoy, like poker.
Prior to that, it was pool (still is, fool!). All I wanted to do was kick ass at pool. Books...going out...playing tournaments...joining several leagues...eventually building an addition on the house and buying a pool table. Get it. I'm a freak. But guess what-- I KICK ASS AT POOL.
And I intend to kick ass at poker--do you doubt me?
You gotta set limits. And make sure you obsess about the lady too (you said there's no going around it, eh). You can talk to her, like the others said. But more importantly, you gotta make sure she knows poker's not more important than she is. C'mon, you know it's not. Do whatever to make sure she knows it, and she should respect your poker hobby.
I've got a wife who understands but is not exactly jumping for joy every time she comes by and I'm playing.
You might explain to her that
-This is a hobby for you (unless you're trying to go pro, in which case disregard all this 'cause you've got a World Of Trouble)
-Like all hobbies, you enjoy spending time on it but are willing to limit yourself because you also enjoy spending time with her
-Unlike most hobbies, this one brings money IN (assuming it does for you) and she's one of the beneficiaries

Last: you said she's fed up with you talking, thinking, playing poker "all the time". Quite right. This is off balance, hints of obsession, and is bad for your play. You need other interests, and other responsibilities.

I finally got my girlfriend to watch it on tv with me, and american choppers but thats another story. But yeah, there's a tenative schedule. If she calls i tell her im in a game and ill call her on breaks or when my session is over.
She's cool about it. She even plays one of my home games with me once in awhile. It's cute.
I also buy her a flower for almost every winning week/tourny or something like that. She likes that one alot.
*edit- actually the info could theoretically help your friend against others in the hand so i guess that wouldnt be cool.
If his girlfriend played HU against his friend, that'd be one thing.
But they'd probably be playing in a full-ring game. His friend would have information about another player's hand, and that would be unfair to the other players. That my friend is collusion, no matter how you slice and dice it.
Like I said, hopefully he's kidding.

It's not easy to balance time between family, work, and yourself.
If she is someone you want to stay with, and your thinking with something above the waist then it probably isn’t "poker" that she has a problem with, but instead it's how much of your "us" time poker is taking up.
Some little things to think of: (no idea if they apply to you)
When you come home from work do you:
a) Run to the computer, log on, and start playing.
Or
b) Run to her, give her a hug, kiss, and "I love you", and then 30-60 min later head to play.
When she talks to you when you’re playing do you:
a) Use a lot of "Huh? What was that?, ect" while looking at the screen.
Or
b) Look at her, pay attention, and ignore (mostly) the poker.
When she goes to bed do you:
a) Sit playing poker for another hour (or 10)
Or
b) Go to bed with her. (Not talking about sex here :twisted: )
99% of the time when someone complains like that the problem isn’t really what she is complaining about (poker in this case), but instead about a side affect (taking you away from here for hours and hours)
It's easy to make someone feel like they are playing second fiddle to a game.
Don’t fall into that trap.
Tell her you make more money playing poker than you do spending time with her.
This works even you loose at poker if shes like every other women.
