Until I started travelling a lot, I never contemplated an airline credit card. Went with my companies Barclay MC.
I've put almost everything on that card since Oct. With specials/multipliers and actual air miles I've flown building up, I'm relatively close to a Trans Pacific/Atlantic first class ticket.
Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards® Credit Card
Applied, got approved.
Recieved 50k points. Bought $625 worth of Amazon GC. Sold it on 2+2 for face value for stars. Their was a $69 fee.
Total profit: $556
Their was a xmas sale going on when i bought the GC. Right now you can only buy $500 worth of GC for 50k points. Still a nice chunk of profit if anyone decides to go for it.
Nice!
Have you done any others?
I did Chase Freedom - spend $500 get $250
Chase Saphire - spend $3k (tuition :)) get $500
I think next will be a Citi that is spend $500 get $200
Also some ING stuff that is small - I think open account with at least 250 and get a $50 bonus in 50 days
I did the chase freedom thing when freedom firsttt came out years ago. I think back then it was $200 not sure but yea used my 1 time with freedom.
I bank with chase and generally don't know about much promotions outside of chase. Did a $5k savings account transfer which got me free $100.
Thats about it. I am interested in the chase saphire and the citi 500 to get 200 you mentioned. Let me know if you get any further info/link. Will try it once I am back in the states.
so do you guys just instaclose most of these cards once the bonus is done? doesn't that fuck with your credit rating?
Not planning on closing them.
EDIT - Maybe close Saphire before annual fee clicks in.
lol bought time man...I've been doing this for years. slickdeals is a good place to always find these...just click on hotdeals forum and then scroll all the way down and click the finance link. I've gotten 200k airlines miles...enough to fly around the world probably 3 times in the last 2 years without spending anything..along with probably 3k in cash and gift cards...keep an eye on the posts in that finance section..you won't regret it. I'm not sure what you are usually using to find these.
Barely fucks with your credit rating. I close all of mine. I'd have like 20+ if I didn't...plus if you close em and they run a similar promo and you are like a year out or something..you can do it again. You kinda have to close em if you do this forever or youll get denied just because you have so many open with a certain bank...and just overall...plus I will never pay an annual fee..90% of them are waived the first year so I always make sure to close em before that at the latest...
The last Chase united explorer card I got said you had to keep it open for 6 months or they could take the miles back...keep an eye on the terms and conditions I guess..chase just started it and none of the others have yet...but I'm sure they will eventually...though they will probably always warn when you close it anyway.
Have fun credit card whoring.
If you have a United account with even 1 mile you can do this....or a continental account that you transfer 1 mile to united.

Like I said in the post above you have to keep it open for 6 months.
citi dividend master card 200 cashback on spending 500 - Slickdeals.net

I'm thinking about opening this up and just using it as my everyday card. Seems pretty nice. Service fees are kinda meh after the first year, but love the idea of banking flights for vacation all year long.
Any reason not to do this? Or other cards that are better everyday cards?
Well you don't have to keep the card to keep the miles. I always cancel before the service fee hits. Your mileage account is separate from the credit card though and they don't expire for 18 months.
The 18 months is always reset if you use a single mile or add a single mile to your account. (and you can add miles to your account without having the credit card)
To get the 50k miles on that card you already need 1 point in your account. You can create your united mileage account on United Airlines - Airline Tickets, Vacations Packages, Travel Deals, and Company Information on united.com and then you go to where you can shop at specific merchants for bonus points. You can buy a basspro gift card for $2 (that is their minimum) and it gives you 6 points into your account within about a week or so. Then the ad for the United Explorer with the extra miles will pop up. If you do not do this you only get 25k miles.
