My 2/3 of the pot estimate

Ive been estimating my 2/3 of the pot and am wondering if its a bad way to estimate.


Here is how I estimate 2/3
Say Pot = $3 (even though its obviously $2)

I multiply by 7 and move the decimal over, 3*7= 21

Gives me $2.1 , just over 2/3 .

say Pot=$1.76, bit trickier in the head

1*7=7 , ($0.70 )
7*7=49 (call it $.50)

2/3 is $1.30 , which is nearer 3/4 .

Does any one use a more accurate 2/3 estimation method ?

Or you could just create a 67% of pot bet button depending on where you play.

I don't understand, why can't you just divide by 3 and multiply by 2?

lol, just multiply by 66 and move the decimal over two places. j/k

i always pick the closest multiple of 3 close to the number and then take 2/3 of that easy number. for example, 2/3 of 1.47 is very close to 2/3 of 1.5 which is 1 obv.

or, kinda like what stargrinder said, you can use tableninja. i believe it has four preset bet-some-fixed-%-of-pot settings and they work for raises too.

You can't quickly estimate 66% of a given number? Here, let me try...

345... 230
8746... 5400ish
123456789... 70000000ish

that took 30 seconds to do all three

8746 is actually 5830.667
123456789 is actually 82304526

So I'm crap at that too. But I'm stoned, that's my excuse.

why don't u just bet 1/2 the pot, easier to estimate

or use Excel to calculate it on the fly.:rolleyes:

Sometime I can get close using my method at 2Nl . my inaccuracies are tiny at these stakes,but bigger stakes would men larger errors.

I wondered if anyone had a better method than im using.

Im trying the methods suggested ^^^^^ divide by 3 , multiply by 2.

The pot became $5.55 , I got brain freeze. couldn't divide by 3 at the table.and rounding it to $5.40 gave me $3.60 , still too small

I do have it on excel , to check my estimates.( 2/3 and 3/4 ). just wanted a quicker way in my head.

if you play in pokerstars, go in lobby to options, choose bet slider and there you can set 3buttons with a specific procent of pot you wanna bet/raise post flop. like this no need to do math , just press button and there you go :)

Why not round up to an easy number?

$5.55 becomes $6---- 2/3= $4.

Why does your bet HAVE to be 2/3rds all the time? If you are betting this amount only with certain hands then observant players will read you like a book.

You could divide the pot by half (50%), then half again (25%), add the second half to the fist half (75%), then reduce it by half of the 25% (12.5%), then add on half of the 12.5% (6.25%) and we're pretty close.

Alternatively, you could divide the pot by three, then multiply the result by two, but I think that will take longer.

You could break up 66% into several groups of percentages. 50% plus 10% plus 5% plus 1% ≈ 2/3 pot.

1/2 pot + 1/10 pot

plus half of (1/10 pot)

plus 1/100 pot (optional)

Those are all fractions that should be easy to do in your head. Obviously the 1/100 pot is pretty much a waste of time, since you're already at 65%.

Another option is to multiply the pot by 3735854 and divide the result by 5603781.

Ok, I'll stop being a dick for a mintue and comment on this seriously. Personally, I can divide a number by three much quicker than I can multiply the same number by seven. Once we have a third, it's very easy to double that number, and not only have we taken less time, but we're accurate too.

b = 2*(p/3) where p is pot and b is bet. Simple.

Oh, and your method is ok to be fair, it will always give you 70% of the pot, since what you are doing when you move the decimal place over is dividing by ten, so your formula would look like this...

b = 7p/10

If p=100, then b = 70, or 70%.
