Definition
In 7 card stud refers to the amount of exposed cards that are able to help your hand. If the 3 starting cards are 3 to a flush your flush is considered live if there are 0 or 1 exposed cards of the same suite and is considered dead with 3 or more of the same suite involved, 2 exposed cards are sort of dead but may be playable
Example
On 4th street my cards started to fall slightly dead so I folded
