If so, I'll mod. It will be pretty vanilla with a few subtle changes from our standard games. Need a minimum of 15 players.

I'm assuming that's because I'm Awesomeness personified. Or maybe it's because you think it will fail and you wanna laugh at me.

I'm settled on all the roles and game mechanics which I think are pretty cool but I'm still thinking about how much to reveal. Not in terms of keeping back info to keep it interesting but in terms of initial info effecting balance. I think it will be fun though.

I don't expect you to fail dan, I expect awesome, but I promise I'll laugh if you fuck it up.

Any suggestions for the best game thread for a noob to read to get a good grasp of the game? It needs to be a pretty vanilla setup.

daven's wolf game was reasonably straightforward, it's certainly a good example of how stratgey shifts from basically randomly pointing fingers to wagon analysis and associative tells. It's also a great game for showing how a noob wolf should play, daven was unlucky to not win that.

Here's a rule I'm thinking of implementing, but want opinions on it first.

Al villagers must post a minimum of 5 posts per day (werewolf day ie 48hrs) or the village loses a random power that night.

I figure this means everyone has to post a minimum of 5 times per day as the the village will know you're a wolf if you don't and no powers are removed.

Any thoughts? I don't see a downside. I'd obv be flexible if there is good reason.

Really, you cant force the playerbase to play. You can only exclude those that may often be poor participants.

Or do what I do, and try and create intrigue and mystery enough to have even regular villagers highly involved. Though thats failed.

i agree with the idea behind it rong, but like... we've all got shit going on, and i just don't see it panning out smoothly. plus where do you draw the line on what counts as a substantial post? it's nice in theory but think about it: many of us have jobs, some are students, and we're in radically different time zones. so much shit happens while i'm asleep.

why not just enforce a stricter modkill regulation? like.. if you dont post for x amount of days (or x amount of hours) you will get a warning, and then a modkill. and if we have irl time constraints, we pm you directly about them.

if anything it should be more like 3 posts a day, not 5. 5 is optimal but 3 is acceptable.

Gonna be hard to enforce. If I have real life shit to deal with I will post 5 random pieces of shit that helps nobody. Forcing villagers to do things isn't going to cut it. It's up to the villagers to force the village, if they don't want the wolves to have an advantage end game.

Fine, no min post rules. I was gonna give every wolf and special min post counts ad well or else they lose their special. I'll scrap that too.

How long is this game expected to last? I'm getting married 2nd week of August so if it'll last longer than this I should probably sit out.

Depends, 2 weeks max I would think.

Well, maybe a bit more, it really does depend.

Actually, the more I think about it I realise I have no idea. But I would think 3 weeks would be an absolute maximum

Heh. You're right, of course, but if the remaining players were daven, gator, and three bigreds, I think daven wins lol. So you can have most of the credit, but not all of it! For lone wolf to win, he either needs an incompetent village, or to have played perfectly. Your win in my first game gets better the more I play this game. Stax is hardly incompetent, and he held the deciding vote. I've played well as lone wolf on mafiascum and still lost. It's near impossible. Daven gave much more than can be expected imo. So yeah you pwnd him hard, but he was still unlucky. And of course there's no shame in being pwnd by you!

I'm not so sure. It simply requires that the wolf played perfectly, ie stayed off the right wagons, no associative tells, and no mistakes. Very few are capable of that. But some are.

One reason I think a strong village can win the endgame a significant portion of the time is that it takes a team and when that team is assembled, no can defend. The Gator/Daven game is a great example. Me and Ong and Hoopy didn't have the easiest time finding Daven as wolf because we thought Gator was also a likely wolf, but Gator knew he wasn't, so he had the opportunity (duty) to use that information to find the wolf. So he did, and his case was strong enough that it sparked a chain reaction that got everybody else convinced.

Similar happened in the last game.

Game starts tomorrow afternoon/night. No more players.

I've never played before so if anyone wants to hit me up with educational material that'd be cool.

That's kinda it. The dynamics of gameplay are picked up along the way. It's easier to learn by playing than by it being explained to you

Savy, read a previous game thread. Someone link to a good one for noobs read. I'm on ny phone so can't. I think ong recommended a good one earlier. The one where gator found the last wolf or something. Basically. read that thread. It will take an hour or so but you'll get it after that.
