    Rules

    General Guidelines

    * This match includes some new Werewolf players. Explanations of roles will be provided and players are welcome to submit general questions directly to me via Private Message.
    * To submit a "Lynch" vote during the Day cycle, simply type Lynch x-Player (in bold text) within a post. If you would like to "Rescind" the vote, you should also notify the Narrator in the same format. Rescinds are not required, but appreciated.
    * Day-cycle lynches will occur once a majority of the remaining players have arrived at a consensus. If there is no majority, the player with the most "Lynch" votes will be eliminated once the Day-cycle ends. If there is a tie, then the player who was first to arrive at the tying number will be eliminated.
    * The game ends when no Wolves are remaining (Villager/Hero Victory) or when the number of Wolves is greater than or equal to the number of Villagers (Wolf/Villain Victory).
    * Day-cycles will last 48-72 hours. Night-cycles will last 24-48 hours (at Narrator's discretion).
    * There are no secret Win Conditions. In order to achieve Victory for your faction (Villager/Hero or Wolf/Villain), you must fulfill the goal(s) outlined in the PMs published below.

    DO

    1. Participate actively in this thread if you are playing. The more information (true or false) that is posted the more entertaining matches tend to be.

    3. Send me a Private Message if you have any questions/doubts about Roles, Gameplay, etc.

    DON'T

    1. Discuss gameplay outside of this thread (unless you are authorized to do so by the Narrator).
    2. Edit posts. Once you have posted something, any edit should be clarified in a separate post.
    3. Post any Private Message communication from me in this thread, or share it off-forum with anyone who is playing.
    4. Excessively flame, spam, or intentionally provoke a player to break the rules.
    5. Post in this thread during a non-introductory Night-cycle.
    6. Post in this thread (or the Wolf Den) if you have been eliminated. A separate thread may be provided for you at a later time.

    Private Message Examples (Source: JKDS)

    * You may click the "Show" button for all of these regardless of your faction/role. They are not really "Spoilers" per-se, but rather explanations of each role and its win condition.

    Regular Villager
    Spoiler:

Welcome to FTR Werewolf: Gold Rush!
    Your role is Regular Villager.
Although you have no special powers, your voice and vote can be powerful weapons in their own right. Use them to your best advantage.
Win Condition: You are aligned with the Village! Thus you win the game once all the wolves are dead, whether you are alive or not.

    Seer (Odd Night)
    Spoiler:

Welcome to FTR Werewolf: Gold Rush!
    Your role is Seer.
On odd-numbered nights you may send me the name of one target player to investigate. If you do, I will tell you whether that player is aligned with the Village or with the Wolves.
Win Condition: You are aligned with the Village! Thus you win the game once all the wolves are dead, whether you are alive or not.

    Angel
    Spoiler:

Welcome to FTR Werewolf: Gold Rush!
    Your role is Angel.
Every night you may send me the name of one target player. That player will be protected from all kill attempts on them, however they will also be prevented from using any abilities or submitting any night kills. You may not protect yourself--nor can you protect the same player consecutively.
Win Condition: You are aligned with the Village! Thus you win the game once all the wolves are dead, whether you are alive or not.

    Vigilante (Even Night)
    Spoiler:

Welcome to FTR Werewolf: Gold Rush!
    Your role is Vigilante.
On even-numbered nights you may send me the name of one target player. That player will die during the night unless the angel intervenes.
Win Condition: You are aligned with the Village! Thus you win the game once all the wolves are dead, whether you are alive or not.

    Wolf
    Spoiler:

Welcome to FTR Werewolf: Gold Rush!
    Your role is Wolf.
Your team is composed of _____, _____, and _____.
In addition to the game thread, you may speak to your fellow Wolves in this thread here: _________.
Win Condition: You are aligned with the Wolves! You will win the game once the living Villagers no longer outnumber the living Wolves.

    Prologue

*Roles unassigned --- all players may appear within narration at any time. The story has no bearing on factions.

OngBonga's mouth felt particularly dry upon removing the worn saddle from his steed's backside and tying "Colt" to one of the available makeshift fence posts outside the saloon.

It had been a long day for him and the rest of his friends... some he had known for years and others were new arrivals in Gold Rush.

Upon pushing open the doors and taking in the familiar, aged atmosphere of his favorite watering hole, he was greeted by baudib and Keith, who had both come from behind the bar to greet the man who had single-handedly knocked off two bottles of whiskey during a recent binge-filled afternoon.

"So there's another body," asked Keith. "Yes," replied Ong coldly. "That makes three in as many nights."

"If we don't catch the person or people responsible for this, we'll lose our business here in town.," offered baudib.

Ong was chewing over the words... trying to think of the most appropriate way to reply when an attractive female approached him.

"I reckon you could use a lil' cleanin' up," said the female voice. It was SweetClaireRose, who had been responsible for running the saloon's brothel operations ever since Keith had rented out the annex years ago. The decision had been a profitable one, yet with the recent nighttime killings in Gold Rush, something had to be done... and quick-like! Otherwise, the typically rowdy bar room and lounge would be a ghost town before long.

"I'll be up yonder in a minute," twanged Ong. "Any of the gals up for a good time?"

"Flo's out sick but there's always Clementine and her daughter, Clementine Jr," SweetClaireRose noted with a mischievous smile. "I'm sure they can tidy ya' up just fine. I'll go upstairs and tell the girls to draw your bathwater in the meantime."

"Any brown ladies available," inquired Ong as he handed over a miniature leather pouch containing several silver coins.

bikes, who had stood up from his piano bench moments earlier chuckled, "We could always grease a cat's ass for ya!"

Ong rolled his eyes but greeted his friend with a firm handshake and provided a solemn nod... letting the musician know that yet another body had been discovered just on the outskirts of town. The body had been mutilated and its heart, for some reason, had been removed.

"Lord save us," exclaimed GatorJH, who had taken a break from the wood stove area where a large kettle of stew was being prepared for the nighttime customers. "What the hell are we gonna do?"

"We'll find him, or her, or them," stated gabe matter-of-factly. "The afternoon poker game is drying up because people have been staying indoors," added the lanky 6'4" character who was impeccably dressed.

With that, the crowd of buddies dispersed. Ong grabbed a half-filled bottle from the bar and strolled up toward a changing room, noticing that an attractive woman in her mid-40s was lifting a large washtub of water and placing it in one of the wood stoves, assisted by young Clementine Jr.

"I'll worry about villains tomorrow," Ong thought to himself. "Tonight is all about a good time."

    -----

Meanwhile, across town, there was a commotion inside the General Store, where its manager a500lbgorilla was attempting to keep the peace during a heated argument.

Several townsfolk had gathered to share opinions on what should be done about the recent carnage in Gold Rush.

"I've about had enough of this shit," hollered GrayFoxxxx across the room. "Yeah, we've barely settled in here in Gold Rush and we learn that people are getting their hearts torn out," screamed Keybored.

"I say we start asking around and being very thorough in our investigation," said wufwugy, who subconsciously placed his right hand on top of his holstered six-shooter. "I've got plenty of guns, and a500lbgorilla here has plenty of rope," wufwugy added.

bigred, who seemed more interested in a triangular, wood-carved novelty with pegs sitting on the shelf allowed himself to be distracted. "I'm all for anything that gets us back to enjoying ourselves," he sighed.

"So we're really going to start hanging people we may have known all our lives," asked the town's physician, rong. "I've got enough on my hands without having to fill out any more death certificates."

"I'm sure you'll figure it out, Doc," came a voice from longtime rancher lolzzz_321. "It seems like the only way to root out whatever evil has invaded our beloved town."

"Well I reckon that settles it," chimed in Credsfan03, who had just arrived in Gold Rush a few months back in hopes of acquiring a nice tract of homestead land for his family.

"Time to let everyone else know," said lolzzz_321 with an air of finality.

The crowd exited the General Store one-by-one, and headed to the saloon to inform the others.

Narrator's Note: The introductory night phase will begin shortly. Factional-based Roles will be assigned at that time, and a running count of remaining villagers, angels, seers, vigilantes, and wolves will be published then.

Once the thread is unlocked Friday, all participants are welcome to post. However, Night #0 will be the only night-cycle in which players may post in this thread.

Have we ever had a neutered seer like this before . seer virtually has to out on day 4 as day 6 could leave 10 dead 2 shot and three left so for seer to out on day 6 its seer, wolf + another with the seer and wolf then both claiming to be the seer and other has a choice to make between them. At least SDM isn't playing as he'd probably fake out as the seer as well

    Metal.....Gear!?

There was quite a bit of discussion on specials and game balance, both at the end of the last game and in the (very long) signup thread to this one. SDM, the seer last game, suggested that the seer was too powerful. Wuf, who was on the losing team, actually talked about the seer being needed to balance, but talked about using caps on powers.

The last couple of games have largely been decided by the seer and desperate gambits to fake out. Perhaps we need a bit more game play and force everyone to participate instead of relying on specials. Let's see how it plays out. I'm sure Huber considered all this and the size of the field as well. If we had 13 villagers and 3 wolves he'd have likely allowed full powered specials (I think he said something to this effect in the signup thread.) Blame BankItDrew for not posting in the right thread!

I will note that your post could be a cheap attempt at villager cred and an attempt to draw out specials.

Keith, we have used a odd night seer before but it was Ong and he was nom'd early so it didn't matter

FWIW I think this game may be the most balanced we've played so far. The purpose of the specials is to give the village a boost. If they ever do more than that, either they played sick or the game was imba

    But we'll see

    It mattered to me.

Keith is prob right though, seer will likely need to claim on d4 with 2 lookups. Trying to push it to a d6 claim with 3 lookups seems like a very risky seer strat.

Optimal seer strat isn't a d4 claim, it's d3, assuming the angel is still alive.

Let's just start Day 1 already. I already know who we're gonna lynch. Since there's no BID, we have to kill BID-lite, lolzzz
  27. #27
Last time lolzzz played he was a wolf and the entirety of his contributions was "hey guise don't lynch me" and "lololol"
  28. #28
That's terrible logic, Wuf. If he's that bad as a wolf we hardly have anything to worry about.

Naw, it's about weeding out poor play

Every time, virtually without exception, that people who are not paying attention make it to the late game, the wolves win. One of the main jobs of the village IMO is to get rid of the weak links. The game runs at a rapid exponential pace, so if by the final days, the village is not made up of a winning team, it loses.

At least that's how I play. The way I do elimination process involves punishing low content players and hard to read play. This is because wolfing is so hard by the end if you are forced to put out lots of content. For example, look at how my fake-out didn't work in the last game. I knew it wouldn't work at first so I didn't even try to back it up much. That was because I have a high content style, and that sort of thing gets you majorly in trouble when you're a wolf. There are ways it can be pulled off, but it's hard. Some other players have been able to do it, but also they get in trouble

My village strategy isn't to find as many wolves as we can so much as it is to set up the dominoes that destroy the entire team. So you'll see it's common practice for me to go after low-content players

I had a clear idea of what I was going to do on Day 1, assuming near-zero information. It dovetailed nicely with idea for an optimal default Vig strategy.

But I wasn't anticipating a veteran player howling so hard right off the bat.

    that shit aint deflection holmes

notice how when i was turncoat, i got everybody to think i was lock villager. im not exactly new to how to manipulate in this game. like in the last game, ong accused me of deflection when i said "i wish jyms was playing" after he accused me of being the turncoat. but i was laughing at that because a different thing i had done was my real deflection, that was buddying up to ong by giving reasons why i thought he was a villager. that was one part of a long process of getting ong to think i was villaging and wolfhunting and all that

basically what im saying is deflection is a legit tactic, but it's not something so weak and simple

btw the best way to catch me as a wolf is to tell me im a bad wolf or that you caught me. i was soooooooo close to just going bananas last game because ong did that. im weird in that i care more in being theoretically sound than in getting results

So since you're interested in GTO why don't you get into optimal play for noob villagers like I asked earlier.

Because their optimal play is the same as for every other villager

To be as simple as possible about it, just post a whole lot. Prove that you're a villager and lynch those who are not engaging or who are inconsistent with the behavior of wolf-hunting. Make a hierarchy of most-likely-villagers-to-most-likely-wolves and use that as your pressure/lynch order

A village that does that makes it almost impossible for wolves to win

think i proved that theory wrong a couple of games ago wuf

what game was that. i remember it but not enough

why is wuf promoting a simple strategy to the noobs that he has just said wouldn't have caught him in the last game since he was aiming to be thought of as a lock villager.

Are all the nubs baudib's homeboys?

wuf , it was the game you modded when i convinced village that i was a lock villager and made a case against hoopy that got him lynched to win ........and we even had BID on our team to boot and he managed to not get hung or drop the rest of us in the brown stuff.

Ultimately it was part of what caught me

Being able to get away with a web of lies doesn't mean that it's easy. The more lies the village forces the wolves to tell, the harder it is for them to maintain consistency
