Default This is why I hate these spots. Badly played?

    PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, 3.3 Tournament, 30/60 Blinds 5 Ante (8 handed) - PokerStars Converter Tool from http://www.flopturnriver.com

Only just joined this tourny. Maybe 2nd or 3rd hand so no reads / stats. I don't know why I raised 2.5x - I've only just got out of bed. In early levels normally raise min of 3x to try and build a pot.

So people say "have a plan". Well I didn't love the idea of checking and him checking behind as there are a ton of overcards I won't like. If I lead what's my plan if I get raised? So I decided now that I would shove over the top with 2 overcards, backdoor flush draw, OEST, fold equity, and the fact I could rep an overpair that wasn't just c betting.

So I bet and hoped he wouldn't raise but he did and I stuck to my decision and end up with J high. I thought about a c/r but firstly he might check behind and secondly it gives him the option to get the last bet in and it's pretty awful calling off my stack early levels with a draw (MAYBE backed up with a flush draw)

Any suggestions? I'm pretty tired but wanted some thoughts on this. Thanks.

    MP1 (t5,640)
    MP2 (t6,530)
    CO (t6,920)
    Button (t2,875)
    SB (t2,895)
    BB (t2,770)
    UTG (t9,305)
    Hero (UTG+1) (t2,835)

    Hero's M: 21.81

    Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with J, 10
    1 fold, Hero bets t150, 1 fold, MP2 calls t150, 4 folds

    Flop: (t430) 8, 6, 9 (2 players)
    Hero bets t270, MP2 raises to t720, Hero raises to t2,680 (All-In), MP2 calls t1,960

    Turn: (t5,790) 3 (2 players, 1 all-in)

    River: (t5,790) 4 (2 players, 1 all-in)

    Total pot: t5,790

    Results below:
    Spoiler:

Hero had J, 10 (high card, Jack).
    MP2 had 9, A (one pair, nines).
    Outcome: MP2 won t5,790

hand and your reasoning are fine.

if you have the right price to call with a draw you should, what about that is 'pretty awful'? Read/Re-read ToP.

Fold pre your out of position to play J 10 , i mean you say awful / undesirable being the caller ! put POSITION AFTER THOSE WORDS ! when you don't have to be if you fold pre-flop

If the table is folding to pfrs, then this open is good. If we have a reasonably tight image, then we're repping an overpair pretty convincingly on the flop. I really don't see anything wrong with this hand.
    Check out my self-deprecation here!

Well played, definitely not folding JTs pre-flop there especially in a $3.30 where everyone is going to be awful post flop. I'd bet flop a little smaller, I think shoving over the top is fine - it's better than flatting and having to fold on the turn with like a PSB behind

Yeah that's what I thought - loads of value at this early stage.

What are we doing if he flats and the turn bricks? Are we checking intent on giving up or barrelling?

Do u think it's better to barrel say a 4 and keep repping an overpair or a scare card like an ace or king?

I just don't think this is the RIGHT TIME to shove seeing as you just joined tourney...unless you have something else to do....IJS
What MUST be, most surely SHALL be!!

So you wouldn't take the most profitable option because you've just joined the tournament? If you play for entertainment purely I guess that might be the best option but if you play to make money it isn't

Definitely not the best hand to be opening UTG+1 that's for sure. Don't mind the rest of the play too much. But you should be aware that in these lower buy-ins (especially on Stars) people will call off with any sort of hand, pair, etc, so you should be expecting to get called there a good portion of the time. If you're ok with that, then make the shove.

Basically what I'm saying is your fold equity might be less than what you think.

Not quite deep enough stacks for me to want to raise this UTG+1, but a raise isn't terrible.

Postflop is good, I'm not getting away from that. We still have some fold equity with shoving, and 8-15* (backdoor flush +1) outs when called.
Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

seems pretty risky that early in the tourney, would prefer preflop fold especially oop
