Default When do you have 2 many chips to add on in rebuy

I play the $3.30 Pstars rebuy at 7 pm central regularly.

You get 1.5k to start, 1.5k rebuy w/less than 1.5k in chips, and a 3k rebuy after an hour of play.

I play extremely loose aggressive during the first hour until I have 6-7k in chips then I slow down. I really start to batten down the hatches at 10k and by 14k I'm settled in and get pretty selective about my spots. I won't rebuy in the last ten minutes or so because I feel it's not worth playing the after period without at least 10k in chips.

If I make it to the after period I usually add on if I have at least 4-5 k in chips, but with a very productive re buy period the add on seems to be a waste of money.

If you have 18k plus chips and no one at the table has more than 9k before the add on, do you forgo the add on?

Not to say this is a common problem, but it comes up a few times a month for me anyway.

If its a normal tourney you should almost always take the add-on.
(Unless you have like 95% of all the chips in the entire tournament or something like that.)

If its a satellite it can often be correct not to take the add-on, depending on structure and stack size.

Should you always add on in rebuy tournaments? : Multi Table Tournaments : Poker

    random post I found
Im pretty sure this can be answered mathematically as follows:
(Prizepool+addon cost)/(number of chips in play+addon stack amount) (b/c theoretically if you addon there will be that many chips in play ) = $ value per chip

if $value per chip x addon stack amount < addon cost then you should always take the addon regardless of how many chips you already have.

Everyone agrees that early in the tournament $value per chip is pretty much linear and later in the tourny $ value/ chip isnt linear especially near bubbles.

Immediately after a rebuy hour is the START of a tourney.

if you were sitting in a 10-20 NL cash game with 12k and the next biggest stack was 4k and the casino manager came around offering a deal where you get 2 black chips for $150 you'd take it every time. The point isnt relative stack sizes its clearly value per chip in the cash game example. Doing a little math will show its pretty much always +EV in the only slightly "not the same situation" of the tourney.
Rebuy MTT - Should you always add-on??

Also I want to add that I still love my chances in the 3rb if I'm 'stuck' with only the chips I can rebuy and add on right before break.

Is this still the case for today? Or has there been any recent changes before I sign up here?

why play a rebuy+ addon if your not prepared to rebuy late in the 1st hour and the add on is a must because u usually get 2 or 3 times the amount off chips forthe buyin amount.

I don't know for sure, but personally, if the chips I get from the add-on are less than 1/15 of my stack, then it's not necessary, since the percentage that your stack will increase is low
