    Default SNG Wizard Question

Recently I have been spending alot of time reviewing my hands on SNG Wiz. Sng Wiz tells me that I am not pushing near enough when I am sb and it is folded to me (typically I am the short stack). This tactic seems to work much better at the 11's then at the 5.50's. Problem seems to be that the players at the 5.50s will call much lighter than players at the 11's. Do I just keep pushing in this situation or should I wait for better cards.

Also after you have pushed on a BB four or five consecutive times, aren't we "pushing our luck", pardon the pun. Maybe I am missing something but it appears to me that as the short stack, SNG Wiz tells me to push almost ATC if it is folded to me in the sb. I suppose I look rather foolish when my 6 2 pops up on the screen. I dont have a problem looking foolish, if I am doing the right thing, but it seems I was doing much better when I "waited for cards". I guess what I am asking is if Sng says push, does that mean push, or do we still need to use some discretion?

Well, the thing is - if you see the BB calling wider than the range that you have set in SNG Wiz, then adjust the range in Wiz and see what it says.

It's a common mistake amongst users of Wiz to just accept the default ranges without adjusting them for realistic opp ranges. Take a look at this post - http://www.flopturnriver.com/pokerfo...iz-143435.html

As taipan says the range that it is profitable for you to push is dependent on the calling ranges of those still in the pot and SNG Wiz's default estimates of those are not necessarily accurate.

If you have open pushed in the SB four or five times, then even the dullest player is going to call a subsequent push wider. So you have to tighten up your pushing range. If you push 6 2, get called and win, others are going to think you are pushing any two in the small blind, so again you have to tighten up.

The first time you push in the SB, you can enter a reasonable guess for the BB's calling range in SNG Wiz. Obviously that then has to be widened the more you push or the more you get caught pushing "trash".

I tend to not shove some of my weakest hands into the BB when I have 8+ BB to preserve some FE and give me a little leeway for making mistakes on my opponents estimated hand range. I think it makes sense as even the dimmest opponent is going to loosen up when shove from the SB 3 out 4 orbits. I'm prepared to give up some small +EV shoves to maintain a good image for when the blinds are a bit bigger.

Post Hand Ranges in SnG Wiz

    Greetings!

    UberNoooob here.

I'm taking a look at the evaluation versionof SnG Wiz, and my [bound to be obvious] question is:

    * How do you refine the default Hand Ranges to reflect actual play situations?

For example, can I use the stats from my HUD?

Most people do it based on experience, but it's possible to interrogate your database using filters to see what kind of ranges people are shoving. It's generally not possible to use PFR/VPIP from the HUD since these change for most players based on stack sizes and blind level. Thank you, Nakamura-San,

Nice article, too - will study.

Given that I don't yet have much experience, or much of a database, how risky is it to continue using SnGWiz defaults until I get more up-to-speed?

Will this give me a good starting-point, or am I just setting myself up for trouble?

    Cheers!

You will need to alter the WIZ defaults to make sensible decisions.

These are things you might want to keep in mind.

    1. People call tightly when the blinds are low, probably <15%
    2. People call shoves more loosely if you shove from a later position.
    3. People with big stacks call more liberally than small stacks.
    4. People tend to call SB shoves a lot more than normal, in some cases up to 50% of the time.
    5. Everyone shoves more loosely on bubble and calls more tightly (WIZ gets this wrong often)

    Thanks again!

so - in your opinion - is SnG Wiz something i should be investing in now? or should i save my $99 until i know what i'm supposed to be doing with it?

    Cheers!

If you plan on playing mainly SNGs, it's an indispensable tool. That said it is $100 and something I didn't purchase until later in my SNG career, when my roll could support it.

There are a number of free options that will give you a feel for ICM, but aren't as functional as WIZ. Here's an example, Downloads: Training: The ICM Trainer

    Hey Double J
My opinion after owning it for a few months:

The test mode is absolutely necessary to learn proper push/fold play and worth much more than 99.00.

The review of hands played where I get to see a green check mark for good or a red x for bad ahhh not so much, there are to many other variables to a hand. I got caught up in "what does Sng Wiz say to do", Sng doesn't know what happened the last 5 hands to be able to accurately determine wether to push or fold the hand in question.

I am sure in time these guys will help me with better uses for "review" mode but I use "test mode" a bunch.
