    Default Satellite Strat

Does anybody have some links to decent articles or books on how to play satellites please?

    Thanks in advance.

There is simply no good satellite strategy on the internet, period.

Holdem Resources Calculator is the best teacher for this.

    Thanks, will take a look.

Biggest area I'm struggling with is really close to the bubble when 25% of the field (including me) has M less than 2 and most the rest has M=3 to 4. Roughly speaking, my instinct is to get it in wide, particularly when in the blinds, but this isn't working out that well for me.

Sounds like a bad idea to me. The payout structure of sats has huge implications on how you play. Say 10 people win & 90 get nothing the value of your last few chips on the bubble is ridiculously big.

Yeah bubble of sats is the only time I can think where AA can be a legit fold pre flop.

Much depends how many people need to bust out, and how many people are going to be forced in before we are. If we're in that group of people who will be forced in before we can fold our way to victory, then I'll open up my opening range, but not my calling range. Once we're ahead of the danger group, I'll tighten the fuck up and will even consider folding AA to a raise (vs bigger stack ofc). I'd have to be super confident that we have enough chips to hold out for me to fold AA, but I've done it before and will likely do it again.

Satellites are similar to other MTTs with only one exception: ppl play much tighter in these from my observation

They play vastly different at bubble.

For example, we have a big stack, say 70bb, there's four more people to bust until we win our ticket, and we have 23o on the BB. Folds to SB, who shoves for 15bb.

    MTT, it's a fold. Sat, it's a call.

Or another example. We have 25bb, five more to bust out, average stack is 15bb and we have AKo on the button. Fish with 50bb opens UTG x3, folds to us. MTT, we can shove this. Sat, I'd quite happily throw this away.

Or we have 100bb with AA on the BB, two more to bust out, and it folds to SB, who has 150bb. He open shoves. This is a fistpump call in an MTT, while it's a ridiculously easy fold in a sat.

If you're playing sats the same as MTTs at bubble, you're making some pretty terrible mistakes. In an MTT we want to build a stack, but in a sat all we need to do is to qualify, which drastically changes the dynamic as we approach the bubble.

Just want to add that I think there is a much bigger edge in sats than mtts, because:

You just need to have a think about how playing them will work out though. E.g. you have a 50% ROI in sats, but are realistically a big loser in the mtts that you're satelliting into.

Yeah ok I shouldn't say it is a call, just that it can be, wheras in an MTT it's always a fold. Four to bust out in a sat, anything over 30bb is a safe stack, assuming the average is in the 10-20bb range. If I'm left with 50bb+ even when I lose, I'd be calling any two cards to a short stack shove, providing there's noone left to act. Folding would also be fine because it's not like it decreases our chances of busting. The example I give is =ev either way, because we're getting our ticket either way. I'd call it for the fun of it, to try and bust some poor sucker with my junk bb hand. Not the best example, granted, I'm simply trying to demonstrate that the MTTs and sats play differently at bubble depending on our stack size.

Here is a 2-part article. I haven't personally read them, but part 1 of the article is by a guy that I believe is a skilled player. This is his Hendon Mob:

Part 2 is by a guy that I have never heard of.

Make your own judgement if you want to use the info or not. Best of luck on imrpoving your Satellite strategy
