Default playing just before the bubble

when you have 4 BB left and only 3 players before the bubble and you
are ITM 18th place from 21 players left.
you get dealt pocket 6...everybody folds before you you are in
middle position one place before the cut off pos.
the button is big stacked with 18 BB and SB and BB about 5 to 7 blinds
I decided to shove all in and get called by the the big stack at the button.
he showed k10 suited clubs. the flop: Ad 6d 2s so after the flop i had 98% to win.
but now guess the next two cards .....indeed this luck happens so much online
to big stacks: turn Jh river Qs so runner runner for a straight.
did i made the right choice to go all in. what is your opinion?
play safe to get into the money or always go for the win.

You made the right choice, if you wanted any chance at a higher prize u have to shove there, unlucky result

i think its a shove , you only got a couple of hands before you're gonna be effectively all in(or stack decimated by blinds)anyway with antes . I think it looks a bad call by the btn but as a cash game player i've never studied ICM.Donkbee is likely to give you a much better answer.

Ok thank you. Yes I think I made the right choice. Only sometimes its such a pity that you play for 2 hours and than go out of the tour in an unlucky hand but yeah that is tournament poker.

If 18BB is 'big stacked'(button) than ICM wise its a shove. 18BB being one of the big stacks means a fast tournament structure. That also puts the call in the right perspective. With only 4 bb you have no insurance for getting ITM anyway as you"ll be short or effectively all in soon. Especially with SB and BB so short, a tight BB could also fold here. Also its better to go for a big payout(top 3) than for a minicash. Its better to bust out a couple of times before the bubble but when you push trough its with a big stack. Its a great time for chipping up with agressive play and building a stack that can carry you to the FT. A lot of minicashes are probably way less than one big payout. Only time one shoud go for a minicash is when the remaning prizes or of the same value(satellite) are maybe if the minicash is so big that it would mean live changing money. Good luck.

For me, after I make ITM, I go for the win. I play a lot of all in or fold type play, because I get so tired of being on the bubble. Bubbled two games in a row last week, placing 11 when top 10 paid and placing 13 when top 12 paid.

The toughest is when 34 beats a 55. It's like if you go in you are out of the tournament, and if you sit out you will be blinded out of the tournament. So whichever decision one made for that specific tourney, they will not cash. 3 and 4 both came up to put the small stack with the 55 out of their misery.

The fact that the blinds are so short probably makes it an even easier jam than usual.

It is a shove. You can't fold to money to be for sure and if 18bb is one of the biggest stacks then I think that your 4bb stack becomes about average if you get called and win a flip. Also, you still have some fold equity left, especially as blinds will cripple themselves if they call. And if button does shove (as it does) you usually flip to get your stack multiplied by 2,5x.

Probably you make the right choice according with the blinds and all that stuff. The problem maybe was that, i mean, look for the players who left to get in the Money, look for the blinds of the others: is that really so important?

If that happens to me I fold with 66. Maybe I bet 66 in a heads-up final tournament. You have to define your hands and play allways the same. Forget about the rest. Forget the blinds, the number of players. Focus on your hands and on your skills. I think this is a way to play allways to win.
