Default Planning to play first sit & go online...

I have played a lot of cash games online, but never tourneys or sit & gos. I heard there are sites that offer good structures like "Double or nothing", etc. what sit n gos have the best payouts regarding holdem & stud? I heard Bodog offers nice sit n gos...

Also if someome wants to share strategy advice regarding the blind increasement and typical opp in these games I would greatly appreciate it.

    Luck to all!

Hi and welcome to the forums, it's good to have you here.

Take a look at the FAQs and the SNG Tactics Guide stickied at the top of this forum, that contains a number of articles and links that will get you started. Also, post hands on this site to get feedback, that's one of the best ways to improve.

In terms of a site to play, for me it is really Stars first and FT second - those sites have the most traffic and the broadest variety of games.

Thank you for your reply! Taipan do you play at the pokernetwork.co.uk? (Betfair, Hollywood, Heaven?) I've seen a user 'Taipan' play, I remember because he won a hand SO funny to watch (str8 flush vs ace high flush), his opponent raised all his chips to him and he showed the for the sraight flush LOL If it is you, we've played a couple of hands already, It would be a nice coincidence.

No, I only play on Stars and Tilt, the player you came across must be my ugly cousin or something

Yea I'd pretty much 2nd Taipan's recommendations for sites. Other than that just start at a low buyin and prove you are a winner before moving up. Frankly I'd just start with regular 9 or 10 man sit n goes, especially if you play fullring cash.

Also a piece of golden advice that I remembered from along time ago that's especially applicable to sngs.
Basically most bad poker players are looking for reasons to play a hand. ie, it's sooted. I folded last hand etc. But really we should be focusing on reasons NOT to play a hand. I mean obviously weigh the advantages and disadvantges of playing a hand. But it's hard to make horrible folds in a sitngo that aren't obvious and whereas many people call way to loose.

Remember that this advice applies to early and mid-stages of an SnG only. In the late stages there are lots of standard spots where you need to move all-in in spite of what your self-preservation instinct is telling you. You need to work with a program (I suggest SitNGo Wizard, it comes with a 30-day trial) to recognise these spots.

yea definately a good point fielmann, if opponents are shoving wide you do need to adjust and call wider. I agree sng wizard or videos are great for learning how to shove call and would definitely recommend it to op.

The other piece of advice that I'd give you is that at the early levels and particularly in early or mid position, you need to play tighter than tight. My UTG range at level 1 is something like TT+, AQ+ for a raise and pocket pairs 22-99 for a limp. Everything else, repeat everything, is in the muck.

Are there are videos in particular that you would recommend?

my firsts were glitlr and nakamura. Both posted videos on grinderschool.com. Glitlr has moved but he still has a bunch of videos there. There are also very diverse videos at grinderschool about different types of sngs, cash, + mtts.

But glitlr is definitely great. He explains well and has a really clear voice + thought pattern.

There's also a couple free videos at ftr which are probably decent, and free.

Also not affiliated with grinderschool at all, not trying to sound like an ad

Maybe give Collin Moshmann's SNG Strategy book a read too. It'll get you on the right track. Also, play around on Pokerstove.

As far as what sites to play on..... personally I prefer Fulltilt but mainly because I prefer to play the 45's & like the structure on that site (non-turbo).

If you're starting off in the micros, you might also want to consider something like Bodog as I've heard the tables are a bit softer there than on Fulltilt & Stars (low player traffic though...and only able to play on 4tables.. but might be good to start out on).
