Default The new donk bet trend

There are a lot of plays in MTTs that seem to come and go in waves. For a while there the stop'n'go was being overused, a new trend I am noticing more and more is the donk bet.

Basically this move entails one of the blinds calling your preflop raise. The flop then comes out totally raggy (e.g. 27J) and the blind then leads out on the flop.

I have found that this move is more often than not exactly that, just a move. Repopping the flop will take it down a large percentage of the time and adds a nice little amount to your stack.

Let me go through my PT and I'll find you some hands.

Have you noticed that the size of the donk bet matters? I'm reraised or called a lot more often when the donk bet is larger as opposed to smaller ones which are almost always bluffs. I have a much smaller sample size though ...

I've been noticing this also but I think a lot of people are doing it with a hand like 88. They're not bluffing, they're just honestly that bad at poker that they think the best way to play 88 on a raggy flop is to donk bet and fold to a raise.

I've been raising these sometimes but I usually like to have some kind of a chance to draw out, even if it's just two overcards or a gutshot or even just one overcard with a backdoor flush draw. Another thing I've been doing is just calling these bets when I have a monster, because I know they're folding to a raise so there's no point raising. That way if the turn is another friendly card like a deuce, I usually get at least one more bet out of them. If it's a scary card that scares them away, oh well, we weren't getting any more money out of them anyway.

ssshhh. I raise all donk bets 3 bb or less and dont raise the ones that are 4 bb or more. I have a pretty high success rate.

Another renewed retard trend is the min bet on flops where there are 3 or more people in the pot.

More often than not this is a bluff too.

second what mcat said, I rarely just do this with 2 random cards, I prefer some outs like he said.

I find this tends to be a blocking bet with some kind of <10-out draw.
