Default mid stack in the mid game, spots to open up?

I've been playing a lot of micro mtts lately. I'm finding myself with 15-20 blinds in the middle of the tourney and basically folding everything until a profitable pre-flop shove presents itself.

I'm sure I'm missing some profitable spots somewhere, what should I be looking for?

If you have 2 high broadway cards and you think its a close fold, think about opening instead. If you end up getting it postflop and your dominated, its not a big mistake because you only had ~20bbs

Open up before you get that short. Play as many pots as possible in position. Try not to fold your button.

Hard to play 15 - 20 bbs , generally if you can see a flop and connect in some way the chips are going in anyway - with this stack there is very little room for manouevre; 15 bbs is really shoving time, when the pot is unopened and you are in late position you can chip up by shoving light on the blinds, obviously you can shove your big broadway hands and pairs from any position but still play relatively tight from early position, either this or blinding out really.

call cheap in position with draw cards (suited connectors, suited cards, unsuited connectors), medium pairs ! and when short min raise not 3-bet your premiums so short you will get all your chips in on the river easily why 3 bet ? unless there are too many in the hand or thats what i do ! 12 bb or less i shove

Look to shove over LP steals while on a stack of that size.

The re-steal is great because you get 3.5 BB or more and most of the time LP will fold.

you should find some hands to open, add in at least as many combos as say QQ+, AK since I assume/hope you don't want to open cram KK for 19BBs.

That thread is good, I just wish someone had posted hands. I will play a session tomorrow and hopefully some good spots will come up and I can post some hands.

Sometimes you're card dead for a few orbits or you get a decent, but not great hand and some jerk opens in front of you. And you got a maniac to your left with a big stack.
I know it's not popular around here but waiting for 88, AT+ works sometimes.

you have a perfect resteal stack size

watch and see who is a chronic min raiser and who is hbl (high blind limping and then folding to aggression)

and then wait for a good spot, ie lots of limpers or the min raiser and then shove

also i like to look for "who can fold" ie not the huge stack and not the guy with 4 bbs left
