    Default Implied Odds in MTTs

After reading some posts on here recently I have started to come to the conclusion that I may be playing a bit too loose when it comes to calling raises with low PPs and SCs. Perhaps this is because I learned most of my poker theory during cash games and need to adjust more for MTTs. I would be interested to hear the thoughts from the experienced MTT players as to what adjustments I should be making....

First of all I will say that I am well aware that the subject of implied odds calls is not an exact science. I try to think along the lines of a sliding scale which has to be adjusted according to the specific player we are considering calling as well as a number of other table factors. i.e. We would need much higher implied odds to call a player who is a post-flop nit than we would to call a player who will get it all in without much of a hand. We need higher implied odds the greater the chance that a player yet to act may re-raise and force us to fold. We need lower implied odds the more likely we are to be in position post-flop. etc etc.

So when I am talking about implied odds to call I am talking about a starting point of a sliding scale that will be adjusted according to factors like those mentioned above.

Until now my starting points have been roughly as follows:
Low PPs: 15:1 first caller. 10:1 after another caller(s).
Med SCs: 30:1 first caller. 25:1 with caller(s).

After doing some analysis in PT and particularly after reading Mcat's thread on Low PPs, I realise I should be adjusting my scale up to perhaps 20:1 first call 15:1 after calls for low PPs?

Any thoughts on implied odds for medium SCs?

It's style dependent as well. I like having a ginormous stack. I also think that MTT players suck postflop and will stack off when they shouldn't, so I am much closer to the 10:1 w/PPs.

I'd rather have a medium SC than a low PP

I think your numbers should slide some based on position

Really? What sort of stack odds would you be calling with then say if a standard tag (nothing special) raises from UTG and it folds to you on the button with 98s?

You're right, they do. I adjust down as my position gets better because the more likely I am to have position post flop / fewer people left to act preflop that could raise me off.

Implied odds are usually not there. You should have a really good reason to call a raise preflop. Post some hands?

I agree that implied odds are not usually there later in tournies. However during the first few levels I believe they often are (as long as I am roughly right about the figures).

This kind of situation for instance:

    PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, 20.00 BB (9 handed) - Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    MP1 (3220.00)
    MP2 (1350.00)
    MP3 (1500.00)
    CO (1270.00)
    Hero (Button) (1540.00)
    SB (1460.00)
    BB (3270.00)
    UTG (1580.00)
    UTG+1 (1580.00)

Preflop: Hero is Button with 6, 7
    2 folds, MP1 raises to 60.00, 1 fold, MP3 calls 60.00, 1 fold, Hero calls 60.00, 2 folds

No reads on other opps as this is early in Level 1. But I am getting almost 25:1 implied odds with position on at least a 3 way pot, so this is a call right?

What if the raise was to 80 so I am only getting 18:1 implied odds?

Fold 80, fold if in blinds (bb as well, I need 98s+), fold hu. This is fine.

Im a MTT player with decent results and im really a sucker fot those implied odds situations when some TPP make a min raise and i have position on them cause they are so weak postflop and they can stack you up easily.

Same line of tought applies to maniaks who push allin with ATC after the flop if they made a raise PF.

Now, if we talk about SC, i play them from 67, not below that.

And for pp..... the thing is.. if you are deep, 10:1 is a profitable move to call but when u are SS, shoving is the only way to play them i guess and take the coinflip

    Regards
